Xiaomi Redmi Note 7

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 in brief

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 follows in the footsteps of the famous smartphone that turned the low-cost market upside down in spring 2018: the Redmi Note 5 (and more precisely the Dual Cam version of the Redmi Note 5). Replaced for the first time with the less popular Redmi Note 6, Xiaomi returns in spring 2019 with the Redmi Note 7. Presented in China in January 2019 and confirmed for France two months later, Redmi Note 7 follows in the footsteps of its predecessors.

6.26-inch HD+ screen with slot

In terms of design, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 exchanges the metallic dress of its two predecessors for mineral glass on both sides. The material is Corning’s Gorilla 5 in both cases. On the slices, we find metal. The corners of the chassis have also been reinforced to further improve its durability. The location of the technical elements on the back is identical: fingerprint reader centered, main photo block wedged in the upper left corner and oriented vertically.

At the front, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 takes over the screen of the Redmi Note 6 Pro, but reduces the size of the notch considerably. U-shaped, it now only hosts the webcam. This has a first consequence: the second sensor of the double webcam of the Redmi Note 6 Pro disappears. Second consequence: the ratio of the slab changes. It goes from 19/9th to 19.5/9th.

The display measures 6.3 inches (previously 6.26 inches). It displays images in Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) with a resolution of 409 pixels per inch, a figure that moves very slightly (the screen resolution of the redmi note 6 Pro was 403 pixels per inch, like that of the Redmi Note 5). The backlight is always IPS and Xiaomi indicates that the color range is 84% NTSC,

Snapdragon 660 and 3 or 4 GB RAM

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 includes the Snapdragon 660 which replaces the Snapdragon 636 of the Redmi Note 6 Pro. This is not the more recent model (since the Snapdragon 675, 710 and 712 succeeded it). But it’s a powerful chipset for its price range. Engraved at 14 nm, it is composed of eight Kryo 260 cores clocked up to 2.2 GHz. The graphics processor is an Adreno 512. Its modem is LTE category 12 compatible.

In France, Redmi Note 7 is available in two versions. The first is equipped with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB of storage. The second has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. 30 euros separates them. And these are the same steps as the Redmi Note 6 Pro. And in both cases, storage is expandable with a microSDXC card (up to an additional 256GB). Note that internationally, Redmi Note 7 is also available with 6 GB RAM instead of 4 GB.

Dual 48+5 megapixel photo sensor

On the photo side, the Redmi Note 7 uses the dual photo sensor of its predecessor, but changes the main sensor. The 12-Megapixel sensor is replaced by a 48-megapixel sensor with phase-detecting autofocus and f/1.8 aperture lens. The second sensor is always a 5 megapixel model. Its lens opens to f/2.4. It is used to calculate depths. The unit is supported by a dual LED flash.

Xiaomi also offers the Redmi Note 7 cameras the latest features such as the Night Mode Shooting function initiated on the Mi MIX 3, as well as IA Scene Detection, IA Beauty Mode and IA Portrait mode

At the front, the Redmi Note 7 therefore lacks the dual sensor of its predecessor. This is a very classic 13 megapixel model with an f/2.2 aperture lens. However, its pixels are quite large: 1.25 micron on each side. This webcam is HDR compatible. Both equipments (front and rear) are able to film in 1080p. The main sensor offers a slow motion mode at 120 frames per second and uses the gyro as an electronic stabilizer.

Battery 4000 mAh fast charge compatible

On the battery side, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 retains the achievements of its predecessors. The battery capacity does not change: 4000 mAh. The compatible Quick Charge 4 technology is however more powerful than the Redmi Note 6 Pro. The charger available in the box offers a power of 18 watts.

In addition, the Redmi Note 7 also includes a WiFi ac dual band and Bluetooth 5.0 modem, a GPS sensor (Beidou and Glonass), an FM tuner, a USB Type C 2.0 port, two nano SIM ports and a 3.5 mm jack port. The package works with MIUI 10, a ROM based on Android 9.0 Pie.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is available in three colours: black, gold and blue.
