In 2019, Xiaomi flooded the market with a product launched on average every six weeks. Among them, the Mi 9, Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro are among the most complete. How do these three models differ from the competition? What distinguishes them from each other? Technical data sheets, good plans, complete tests, all the information on these three models are available on this page updated regularly.

Prices and latest good deals winter 2020 sales

Since their announcements, the Mi 9, Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro have seen their prices drop. Launched from 469 euros, the Xiaomi Mi 9 is currently available for 269 euros at Cdiscount after an ODR of 50 euros. It is simply one of the best deals in these 2020 sales.

Eighteen-ish, plain and simple. Flagship tout court for Xiaomi. It is with this smartphone that the Chinese brand launches its 2019 – 2020 season. It therefore incorporates all the technologies that will be on the rise this year: Snapdragon 855, OLED display, under-screen fingerprint sensor, or triple photo sensor. The Mi 9 has everything, but it has no frills, and that’s what we’re asking of it. In order to keep its high-end, but not premium price, Xiaomi necessarily had to make concessions on certain components. Nonetheless, it remains a concentrate of modern technology that does not disappoint.

If you are rather interested in the Xiaomi Mi 9T and its notchless screen, you can buy it on Boulanger for 329 euros. In the marketplace, you can count on 255.99 euros at Rakuten. As a reminder, Xiaomi’s full borderless smartphone cost 349.90 euros when it was launched.

Once again, Xiaomi (Redmi) is launching a smartphone gravedigger that is none other than the European version of the Redmi K20. For less than 350 euros, the Xiaomi Mi 9T has an excellent technical specification and guarantees a top-of-the-range experience. Its large AMOLED full borderless screen allows you to enjoy a nice immersion. Immersion that could have been improved if Xiaomi had worked a little more on the sound part. The Snapdragon 730’s technical configuration holds its course and allows you to navigate smoothly on a clear and dynamic interface. Thanks to its 4000 mAh battery, it is one of the most durable smartphones in its class. On the photo side, the Xiaomi Mi 9T can do better. Victim of digital noise in low light, it struggles to compete with the excellent Google Pixel 3a.

Finally, the 6 + 128 GB version of the Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro is the best price on Rakuten. You will have to pay 339.99 euros to give it to yourself or someone close to you. Off the marketplace, Amazon offers it at 439.90 euros but it’s not a good deal at all since it is displayed at 429.90 euros on the Xiaomi website.

The Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro is a Mi 9T powered by Snapdragon 855. It takes up most of its little brother’s technical specifications, which makes it a very good smartphone that’s also sold at a particularly aggressive price. A quality AMOLED full borderless display, high performance, comfortable range, the Xiaomi smartphone delivers an excellent performance.

Similarities and differences

As their names indicate, the Mi 9, Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro have many similarities. While the design is very similar, the Mi 9T and 9T Pro are distinguished by their notchless, punchless display. Xiaomi has indeed opted for a retractable mechanism camouflaging the front camera. The Mi 9 has a notch in the shape of a drop of water. Also note that while all three models feature an AMOLED display, the Mi 9’s display is HDR10 and DCI-P3 certified.

The Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro and the Xiaomi Mi 9

Most of the differences are in the guts of the three animals. The Mi 9 and Mi 9T Pro inherit the Snapdragon 855 processor while the Mi 9T has to make do with a Snapdragon 730. All are available in 64 or 128 GB versions but the Mi 9 is the only one to be marketed with 8 GB of RAM. The other two models have 6 GB of RAM.

As for autonomy, the Mi 9 relies on a 3300 mAhbattery. Xiaomi has been more generous with the other two versions since they carry a 4000 mAhbattery. The Mi 9, on the other hand, inherits the quick recharge and wireless charging. The Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro have to make do with fast charging.

Finally, although they incorporate a triple photo sensor, they are not all housed in the same place. The Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro embeds the same 48 + 13 + 8 megapixel module. The Mi 9 is equipped with three 48 + 16 + 12 megapixel sensors.

Competitors

The Xiaomi Mi 9, Mi 9T and Mi 9T are offered at fairly similar prices. They therefore find themselves in competition with each other at the risk of cannibalizing each other. Against them, the rivals are as numerous. Among the most serious, is the Samsung Galaxy A50, a direct competitor to the Mi 9 and Mi 9T. Very complete, it stands out above all for its Super AMOLED screen, its One UI interface and a very good camera. With similar qualities, the Samsung Galaxy A70 rubs shoulders with the Mi 9T Pro.

If it is the photo that interests you, the Google Pixel 3a remains the undisputed reference in this price segment.

The Pixel 3a is the first smartphone in the range to target the mid-range segment. This is evidenced by its technical data sheet which is certainly balanced and efficient, but has nothing to make it vibrate. Its OLED display is a very positive point, however, its main strength lies elsewhere. As a worthy heir to Pixel 3, the photographic talents of Pixel 3a are unique in this price range.

Summary of tests

Although quite similar, the Mi 9, Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro are not aimed at the same audience. While all three products are attractive, each has advantages that the others do not. The Mi 9 is the most complete model of all. More consensual with its notched screen, it incorporates all the latest technologies. Its Snapdragon 855 processor ensures excellent performance, its Super AMOLED HDR 10/DCI-P3 display promises a great multimedia experience and its camera is pretty good. Add to this the integration of the fast recharge and 20W fast wireless recharge and you get one of the best techno-price ratio of the year.

The Mi 9T is designed for smaller budgets. Like the Mi 9, it’s a versatile and fairly complete model. But Xiaomi had to make sacrifices to keep costs down. In order to integrate a nice notchless screen and invest in the pop-up camera, Xiaomi had to opt for a less powerful processor. The Snapdragon 730 is no match for the Mi 9’s Snapdragon 855, although it will suffice for the most common uses. The camera, although correct, doesn’t rival the Mi 9’s either, and Xiaomi skips wireless charging, a luxury at this price.

Finally, the Mi 9T Pro has few differences from the 9T. It mainly corrects the power issue since it features the same Snapdragon 855 processor as the Mi 9. With this model, Xiaomi is clearly aimed at power users and gamers who want to have fun without investing a small fortune in their smartphone.
