While a season 2 of The Witcher series on Netflix has been confirmed, nothing has been indicated as to its content. The main players say they are ready for as many seasons as it takes. Focus on plot elements that may well appear in this upcoming season and more.
“I love this character, it’s my dream job! “, recently entrusted the interpreter of Geralt de Riv, hero of the new Netflix series The Witcher, Henry Cavill, to Première. While the heroic fantasy series, adapted from Andrzej Sapkowski’s literary work, has only been out on the platform for a few days, the man who played Superman previously in movies says he is already ready to play the Sorcerer for several years. “If the series is renewed, I could give up a lot of things to continue the series, because I love this story,” he continued. As for Freya Allan, who plays the role of the young Princess Cirilla, she says she is ready to “play a character for many years (and) to grow up with him. “Last month, Netflix confirmed the signing of a second season that will begin production next year for release in 2021. The “showrunners” of the series would plan – if all goes well – to spread the adventures of the famous monster slayer over seven seasons in total.

If nothing official has been announced, several things are more or less guaranteed for the continuation of the events of this first season. Indeed, during the latter, the foundations of The Witcher’s world as well as the identities of the three key characters – Geralt, Ciri and Vengerberg’s Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) – were laid. If the series continues to follow the plots of the books and video games, viewers can expect to meet (or at least get a glimpse of, at first) new characters and elements of the Witch’s world in the coming season. First of all, Geralt de Riv and young Ciri, now reunited, will have to get to know each other. To learn more about the extent of the girl’s mysterious power, Geralt will travel to Kaer Morhen, the fortress of wizards, where he will train Ciri to master the “chaos” that overwhelms her. Geralt will be reunited with his veteran mentor and sorcerer, Vesemir, whose name was mentioned in season one. With this homecoming, the series could also take the opportunity to explore Geralt’s childhood memories from this first season.

At the same time, the hunt for Ciri should continue on the side of the Nilfgaard Empire. However, an entity far more dangerous and threatening than the Niflgaardians could come to light: the Wild Hunt. Similar to those of the Nazgûls in the Lord of the Rings universe or the White Walkers in Game of Thrones, the shadow of the riders of the Wild Hunt hovers over the entire plot of The Witcher (especially in the video games). Elves taking the form of implacable spectres, they come from a parallel universe where they reign supreme. When they appear in the world of Geralt and Yennefer, they come to capture poor people and enslave them in their own world. Their ultimate goal is to get their hands on Ciri and harness her power. Nevertheless, in the original work, before Geralt and the Wild Hunt confront each other, the former almost dies and suffers amnesia, forgetting the existence of Ciri and Yennefer. As he finds himself mired against his will in plots and assassinations of politicians, he gradually recovers his memories thanks to another magician, Triss Merigold, played by Anna Schaffer in this first season.
While waiting to learn more about the series, CD Projekt, the developers of the The Witcher video game trilogy, announced that their dispute with the Polish author has been resolved positively. The studio retains its title as the rightful owner in terms of video game production, board games or graphic novels. Is there a Witcher 4 on the horizon to keep us waiting for the second season of the Netflix series?
