Since last season, Golden State Warriors star player Steph Curry was eligible for a contract extension with the team. Although Kerry openly stated that he wanted to spend his entire career at Golden State, that didn’t happen. If a max deal is on the table, Curry has a guaranteed three-year extension and $156 million.

In an interview with Warriors general manager Bob Myers on 5.7 The Game’s Steiny, Guru & Dibs, he addressed Curry’s future contract with the franchise.

He could sign a four-year contract after this season [or] a five-year contract after that season, Myers said. There was nothing complicated about it. No difficult discussions. It was simple: We’ll talk about that at the end of the year. So that’s what he hopes for and what he strives for.

The Currys will make about $46 million next season. Between now and then, Curry can decide if he wants to sign a four-year extension worth up to $215 million, on top of what he’s already earned. Asked about Curry’s chances of staying with the team, Myers said:

I think he’s happy. Of course, fans will always be concerned about Steph Curry. But I feel he’s in a good place personally and professionally. I’m very glad he wants to be there. Personally, I have none – except for the paranoid fears everyone has that aren’t entirely rational – except sometimes : What if it happens? But it’s not based on fact. So I feel good and I think he feels good.

Earlier in the season, Curry said he wanted to stay with the same team as long as his father Dell Curry played for the Charlotte Hornets; that was 15 years ago. Curry is almost certain to stay with the Warriors and extend his contract, but it’s not there yet.

There is no doubt that Curry is one of the driving forces behind the entire Golden State organization. Per Myers, in the same interview, says there’s a pressure to use Curry while he’s still in the prime of his life that hasn’t changed since 2011.

I feel that pressure because I’m competitive and want to win, and I grew up a Warriors fan. I want to give the fans a great team, just like everyone else. So we hear it [the speech], but we’re still trying to [improve it].

Curry is currently averaging 29.7 points, 5.5 assists and 6.3 rebounds per game. Still, this is one of the best lines of his career since being in the league. While the team is currently 19-18, ninth in the Western Conference, Curry continues to lead the team offensively. Myers and the Warriors hope the team can carry the momentum into the final half of the season to stay in the playoffs under unpredictable circumstances.
