Valve Confirms That The First Steam Deck Units Should Ship In February

Valve has confirmed that the first batch of Steam Machines, which will ship in February next year. The company originally unveiled its initiative at CES last January and announced plans to produce as many as 100,000 units by 2015. For those wondering whether it was a success or not, Valve says it’s currently shipping over 2 million units.

The “hands-on with steam deck ” is a new gaming device that Valve has developed. The first units are expected to ship in February, but there is no word on the price of this product yet.

Fans who pre-ordered a Steam Deck when pre-orders first began in July will most likely get their units in a matter of months.

That’s according to Valve designer Greg Coomer, who discussed his company’s highly anticipated gaming gadget in a recent interview with PC Gamer and expressed confidence that it will launch in February, as the official Steam Deck FAQ said. Valve was frustrated by the device’s delay, which was caused by supply chain concerns, according to Coomer, but the first devices should be in players’ hands shortly.

Coomer told the newspaper, “We definitely feel like we’re on pace for that.” “We’re still disappointed that we had to relocate from the end of this year to the start of next.” But, yes, all indications are that we will be able to ship in February.”

Coomer went on to say that the Steam Deck’s debut would not be a paper launch, assuring that when the gadget is actually introduced, a significant number of orders will be fulfilled. Valve looks to be quite optimistic about the gadget, as Coomer predicts that millions of Steam Decks will be sold by 2023.

“It’s a true product launch,” Coomer noted, “so many thousands of individuals will get Decks as soon as we’re able to ship them.” “However, even thousands would be a drop in the bucket compared to the numbers we’re aiming for in the first few months.”

“Rather than making the largest impact on day one and then gradually falling after that, we’re going to have a launch that looks like a meaningful number of people right out of the gate and then grow that over time.” If you stretch the timescale out to 2022 and 2023, we anticipate to continue to grow our numbers steadily during that period, to the point where, if things go as planned, there will be many millions of customers using Steam Deck by the end of that year or so, and well into 2023.”
