In his illustrious career, Tim Duncan has faced off against some of the biggest stars in NBA history. But only one star athlete can boast a winning record against him: Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal are tied at three wins to one loss with Duncan.
The “who is the greatest basketball player of all time” question has been answered by many people. The answer is that Tim Duncan is the best basketball player of all time. He has a record of only Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal have a winning record against him.
You have to beat the greatest if you want to be great. Tim Duncan accomplished just that with the San Antonio Spurs. When Duncan was on the floor, the Spurs were a primetime team. When you look at his resume, you’ll see that only one superstar has ever beaten him. Everyone else couldn’t stand a chance against the king of basics.
Duncan defeated some great players over the course of his long career. His regular-season success was almost as impressive, with five titles to his credit. Without the Hall of Famer, the Spurs would have been doomed, as these numbers show.
Tim Duncan’s career record versus 25 superstars is as follows.
Michael Jordan – 5 games with a 2-3 record (40.0 percent )
Regular Season: 21.6 points per game, 13.0 rebounds per game, 3.0 assists per game, 0.8 steals per game, 1.8 blocks per game, 47.6 field goal percentage, 50.0 three-point percentage (2-3)
There will be no playoffs.
There are technically two players on this list that have a winning % versus Duncan. Despite this, the two only faced off against each other twice. We would have had more evidence to make an informed judgement on each other’s brilliance if Jordan had remained in the league beyond 1998.
This limited sample size, on the other hand, does not provide a complete picture. If these two had played the sixth game, the series would have most likely been divided. Duncan’s stats are also respectable. Neither team has ever met in the playoffs. The Knicks defeated the Spurs in the NBA Finals in 1999. We may have seen Duncan and Jordan face off in the Finals if the crew had kept together for another year.
Shaquille O’Neal has 62 games and a 29-33 record. (46,7%).
22.0 points per game, 12.1 rebounds per game, 2.7 assists per game, 0.7 steals per game, 1.4 blocks per game, 45.2 field goal percentage, 0.0 three-point percentage (14-18)
25.6 points per game, 13.0 rebounds per game, 3.8 assists per game, 0.9 steals per game, 2.4 blocks per game, 48.5 field goal percentage, 42.9 three-point percentage (15-15)
Shaquille O’Neal was the only player who had Duncan’s phone number. What’s more better is that the two were often pitted against each other in the paint. Duncan averaged a double-double in the regular season and playoffs despite having O’Neal down there. There were plenty of possibilities since the Spurs and Lakers were in the same conference, but Shaq’s Lakers won the majority of the regular season games.
Duncan was able to share time with O’Neal in the playoffs. Duncan swept the Lakers his way to capturing the NBA title in 1999. From 2001 through 2004, the two faced each other in the playoffs every year. Duncan had previously defeated Shaq in a championship season in 2003.
Kevin Durant has 44 games and a 22-22 record (50.0 percent )
Habit of Shooting Hoops
16.6 points per game, 9.7 rebounds per game, 1.9 assists per game, 0.5 steals per game, 1.9 blocks per game, 48.2 field goal percentage, 0.0 three-point percentage (14-12)
Playoffs: 13.6 points per game, 7.9 rebounds per game, 1.9 assists per game, 0.2 steals per game, 1.3 blocks per game, 44.1 field goal percentage, 0.0 three-point percentage (8-10)
Duncan had plenty of peak seasons remaining when Durant joined the SuperSonics, who were later renamed the Thunder, in 2007. The Thunder and Spurs made for an interesting battle, particularly considering each teams featured their own big three. Duncan’s ability to average a double-double was hampered by the presence of Serge Ibaka on both Thunder squads.
We must not forget that Durant was once an underappreciated defender. It was difficult to collect rebounds with both Ibaka and Durant on the court. In 2012, on their route to the NBA Finals, the Thunder eliminated the Spurs, as well as in 2016, when the franchise was on the verge of returning. In 2014, the Spurs eliminated the Thunder on their route to a championship.
Russell Westbrook has played in 43 games and has a record of 22-21. (51.1 percent )
Regular Season: 15.8 points per game, 9.5 rebounds per game, 2.0 assists per game, 0.4 steals per game, 2.0 blocks per game, 48.0 field goal percentage, 0.0 three-point percentage (14-11)
Playoffs: 13.6 points per game, 7.9 rebounds per game, 1.9 assists per game, 0.2 steals per game, 1.3 blocks per game, 44.1 field goal percentage, 0.0 three-point percentage (8-10)
Duncan was able to have a positive winning percentage versus Durant’s Thunder colleague despite playing one less game than Westbrook. Duncan was unable to average a triple-double for the same reasons outlined above. Westbrook would have had the same winning % as Durant if he had played in the other game alongside him.
Durant’s playoff numbers are exact replicas. Duncan had retired from basketball by the time Durant departed to join the Warriors. Both times the Thunder defeated the Spurs in six games, the series lasted six games.
Kobe Bryant has played in 82 games and has a 43-39 record (52.4 percent )
Regular Season: 18.5 points per game, 11.4 rebounds per game, 3.2 assists per game, 0.7 steals per game, 1.8 blocks per game, 45.4 field goal percentage, 0.0 three-point percentage (31-21)
Playoffs: 25.2 points per game, 13.6 rebounds per game, 4.2 assists per game, 0.9 assists per game, 2.3 blocks per game, 47.3 field goal percentage, 25.0 three-point percentage (12-18)
Bryant, unlike Shaq, was unable to defeat Duncan. Shaq’s departure created a gaping hole in the center of the team. You had Andrew Bynum and then Pau Gasol at the forward position when looking at the centers that played that slot. While Gasol is a Hall of Famer in his own way, Duncan was no match for Bynum, so it’s no surprise that Duncan’s Spurs win.
The playoffs, on the other hand, were a different story. During the years indicated above, Bryant played Duncan with Shaq. After the Shaq years, Bryant also played Duncan in the playoffs. When the Lakers reached the NBA Finals in 2008, they lost a five-game series. The teams met again in 2013, this time with the Lakers including Steve Nash and Dwight Howard, and the Spurs swept the Lakers in four games.
Ray Allen has played 45 games and has a record of 24-21. (53.3 percent )
Regular Season: 19.7 points per game, 12.3 rebounds per game, 2.7 assists per game, 0.9 steals per game, 2.3 blocks per game, 49.5 field goal percentage, 20.0 three-point percentage (13-14)
Playoffs: 20.0 PPG, 10.9 RPG, 1.9 APG, 0.6 SPG, 1.6 BPG, 49.2 FG%, 33.3 3-PT%, 49.2 FG%, 49.2 FG%, 49.2 FG%, 49.2 FG%, 49.2 FG%, 49.2 FG%, 49.2 FG%, 49.2 (11-7)
In the paint, Ray Allen had no business matching up with Duncan. If required, the former all-time three-point leader has the ability to sink the Spurs. Allen’s teams, on the other hand, were no match for him in the middle. Allen put up a good fight against the Spurs in the regular season with his stats for the Bucks, SuperSonics, Celtics, and Heat.
Allen only faced Duncan once in the playoffs, in a five-game series defeat in Seattle. In the NBA Finals in 2013 and 2014, the two faced off. Duncan’s sixth NBA title was denied by Allen’s three-pointer in Game 6. Duncan avenged himself in 2014, defeating the Heat in five games.
Jason Kidd has a record of 64 games and a 35-29 record (54.6 percent )
Regular Season: 20.3 points per game, 11.3 rebounds per game, 3.0 assists per game, 0.8 steals per game, 2.0 blocks per game, 48.3 field goal percentage, 33.3 three-point percentage (23-20)
Playoffs: 20.7 PPG, 11.3 RPG< 3.6 APG, 0.7 SPG, 2.8 BPG, 51.6 FG%, 0.0 3-PT%, (12-9)
Tony Parker didn’t make his NBA debut until 2001, roughly a year after Kidd left the Suns. If Kidd had remained in Phoenix, it might have been a terrific rivalry. Instead, Kidd went to the Nets before returning to the Mavericks, although he was beyond his peak during his time in Dallas. Kidd’s teams, on the other hand, always put up a fight against the Spurs.
The playoffs followed a similar pattern, but Duncan had the last word. The Spurs and the Nets played in the NBA Finals in 2003. Kidd has guided the Nets to the NBA Finals for the second year in a row. Duncan, on the other hand, won his second title. The Spurs won three consecutive games to square the series at 2-2, and Duncan was named Finals MVP.
Karl Malone has 36 games and a 20-16 record (55.5 percent )
NBA.com is responsible for this image.
Regular Season: 25.2 points per game, 11.3 rebounds per game, 3.0 assists per game, 0.6 steals per game, 3.0 blocks per game, 52.8 field goal percentage, 0.0 three-point percentage (17-8)
20.8 PPG, 10.5 RPG, 2.4 APG, 0.8 SPG, 1.6 BPG, 48.2 FG%, 0.0 3-PT% in the playoffs (3-8)
Duncan was fortunate in that he faced Malone often enough during the regular season to improve his winning percentage. When you think about it, Duncan’s regular-season stat line is really astounding. Duncan averaged 3.0 blocks per game during those teams, and Malone was a fantastic scorer.
Duncan has a mediocre 3-8 record in the playoffs. Duncan only defeated Malone three times. This includes a five-game series defeat in 1998, when Duncan was younger and Malone was playing for the Jazz in the NBA Finals. Malone then joined the Lakers, where he helped them overcome the Spurs in the 2004 playoffs on their way to the NBA Finals.
Amar’e Stoudemire has 55 games and a 31-24 record (56.3 percent )
Regular Season: 20.3 points per game, 12.0 rebounds per game, 3.7 assists per game, 0.6 steals per game, 2.4 blocks per game, 53.1 field goal percentage, 0.0 three-point percentage (16-14)
Playoffs: 23.8 PPG, 13.8 RPG< 3.0 APG, 0.6 SPG, 2.9 BPG, 53.5 FG%, 33.3 3-PT%, (15-10)
There were several memorable postseason rivalries while Stoudemire was with the Suns. Duncan won just enough games throughout the regular season to call himself a winner. The Spurs, on the other hand, denied Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire a title ring with the Suns since reaching the NBA Finals usually required passing through San Antonio.
During Stoudemire’s first season, the Spurs defeated the Suns in the first round. The Spurs won the championship in 2005 after beating the Suns in seven games in the Conference Finals. The Spurs defeated the Suns in the second round of the 2007 playoffs, giving San Antonio another another championship season. In the first round of the 2008 playoffs, they defeated the Suns.
James Harden has 26 games and a 15-11 record (57.6 percent )
(via Habit of Shooting Hoops)
Regular Season: 14.9 points per game, 9.7 rebounds per game, 2.5 assists per game, 0.6 steals per game, 2.1 blocks per game, 49.2 field goal percentage, 0.0 3-point percentage (13-7)
17.0 points per game, 9.8 rebounds per game, 2.7 assists per game, 0.3 steals per game, 2.3 blocks per game, 44.0 field goal percentage, 0.0 three-point percentage (2-4)
Harden was a member of the first Oklahoma City Thunder squad to reach the playoffs. The Spurs lost in six games in 2012, as the youthful team of Durant, Westbrook, Ibaka, and Harden advanced to the NBA Finals before falling to the Heat. When Harden joined the Rockets after leaving the Thunder, it set up some fascinating contests.
Duncan dominated the contest for Texas’ top dog while he was still in the league. From 2013 to 2016, Duncan discovered a method to take care of the Rockets, winning two games in a row for Harden. That was with Dwight Howard in the middle and the Rockets having some nice size in the middle.
LeBron James has a 36-game winning streak and a 21-15 record (58.3 percent )
Bob Donnan of USA TODAY Sports contributed to this article.
Regular Season: 18.3 points per game, 9.4 rebounds per game, 2.8 assists per game, 0.7 steals per game, 1.8 blocks per game, 51.1 field goal percentage, 0.0 three-point percentage (10-10)
17.6 PPG, 11.3 RPG, 2.2 APG, 0.8 SPG, 1.4 BPG, 49.5 FG%, 0.0 3-PT% in the playoffs (11-5)
One might argue that because of Duncan and the Spurs, LeBron learned a lot about losing in the NBA. To begin with, the regular season was always a struggle. In the regular season, James couldn’t defeat Duncan more than half of the time. James also came up short against Duncan twice in the playoffs.
When James led the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals in 2007, it was the first time. In his fourth season, James carried an undermanned team all the way to San Antonio, where they were swept. In 2013, James defeated Duncan to win the Finals MVP award, but Duncan defeated him again in 2014.
Rasheed Wallace has a 49-game winning streak, with a score of 29-20. (59.1 percent )
Gregory Shamus/Getty Images/Getty Images/Getty Images/Getty Images/Getty Images/G
Regular Season: 19.0 points per game, 12.2 rebounds per game, 2.9 assists per game, 0.7 steals per game, 2.1 blocks per game, 45.7 field goal percentage, 18.2 3-point percentage (21-17)
19.2 PPG, 12.5 RPG, 2.3 APG, 0.4 SPG, 2.6 BPG, 44.6 FG%, 0.0 3-PT% in the playoffs (8-3)
Duncan virtually had the identical stat line in the regular season and playoffs when he played Wallace, according to this comparison. That explains why he was able to beat him nearly 60% of the time.
The two teams played twice in the playoffs. Duncan helped the Spurs get to the NBA Finals by sweeping the Trail Blazers in the Conference Finals in 1999. In the 2005 NBA Finals, the other time had championship ramifications. Before winning the series, the Spurs had to play all seven games.
Dwight Howard – 19-13 in 32 games (59.3 percent )
Kirby Lee/USA TODAY Sports/Kirby Lee/USA TODAY Sports/Kirby Lee/USA
17.3 points per game, 10.1 rebounds per game, 3.0 assists per game, 0.8 steals per game, 2.1 blocks per game, 51.6 field goal percentage, 0.0 three-point percentage (15-13)
Playoffs: 17.5 points per game, 7.5 rebounds per game, 1.5 assists per game, 1.5 steals per game, 1.0 blocks per game, 51.7 field goal percentage, 0.0 three-point percentage (4-0)
Duncan had a nightmarish matchup with Howard during the regular season. It was going to be a competitive game every time the Spurs faced the Magic. Duncan, a 15-time All-Defensive player, was the best foundational machine you had. You have a three-time Defensive Player of the Year on the other hand.
Duncan managed to average a double-double versus Howard. Howard was a rebounding machine, which speaks to his prowess as a player. Duncan also finished with a greater winning percentage. In Howard’s only season, the Spurs swept the Lakers in four games in the playoffs.
Chris Bosh has a 30-game record of 18-12. (60.0 percent )
Regular Season: 19.8 points per game, 11.2 rebounds per game, 2.7 assists per game, 0.6 steals per game, 1.7 blocks per game, 55.4 field goal percentage, 0.0 three-point percentage (11-7)
17.4 points per game, 11.3 rebounds per game, 1.7 assists per game, 0.7 steals per game, 1.2 blocks per game, 51.6 field goal percentage, 0.0 three-point percentage (7-5)
Both began their careers with the Raptors, where he became the team’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder by the time he retired. The team’s regular-season record versus Bosh isn’t terrific, but it’s not horrible either. It was sufficient to complete the task. In the NBA Finals in 2013 and 2014, the two clashed in the playoffs.
Bosh was seen as the main big man in the center by those clubs. Bosh was a big man who had to go up against Duncan. In Game 6, it was Bosh who grabbed the offensive rebound in the final minutes of regulation to swat away a pass to Ray Allen for the game-tying three-pointer that forced overtime. With his victory in the 2014 championship, Duncan denied Bosh a third crown.
Gary Payton has played in 43 games and has a record of 26-17. (60.4 percent )
Bleacher Report/Bleacher Report/Bleacher Report/Ble
22.4 points per game, 11.8 rebounds per game, 2.9 assists per game, 0.7 steals per game, 2.3 blocks per game, 53.6 field goal percentage, 0.0 three-point percentage (21-12)
22.7 PPG, 11.7 RPG, 4.2 APG, 0.7 SPG, 3.3 BPG, 48.4 FG%, 0.0 3-PT% in the playoffs (5-5)
Marcus Smart, the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year, is often compared to Payton for his ability to defend multiple positions while watching the Boston Celtics today. Payton is a capable defender. Despite this, Duncan averaged 22 points and 11 rebounds on most nights while facing the SuperSonics.
Both teams split their matches in the playoffs. Duncan still managed to put up a line that matched his regular-season totals. In the end, they were two excellent defensive players who knew how to play the game. This is one of the rare situations when a guard and forward matchup is worth seeing.
Chris Paul has played in 55 games and has a 34-21 record (61.8 percent )
Image courtesy of Getty Images/Harry How
Regular Season: 15.9 points per game, 9.3 rebounds per game, 2.8 assists per game, 0.5 steals per game, 1.2 blocks per game, 50.6 field goal percentage, 100.0 three-point percentage (23-14)
17.6 PPG, 11.4 RPG, 3.1 APG, 1.0 SPG, 1.5 BPG, 52.6 FG%, 0.0 3-PT% in the playoffs (11-7)
Duncan had just won his third title when Paul joined the league in 2005. Duncan won his fourth championship in 2007 while Paul played in the league for two seasons. Paul guided New Orleans to one of its finest seasons ever the following year. The Spurs beat Paul in seven games in the playoffs, ending Paul’s season.
Duncan destroyed Paul’s aspirations once again when he joined the Clippers, this time with a four-game sweep in the 2012 playoffs. In 2015, though, Paul had the last laugh as the Clippers eliminated the Spurs in the first round of the playoffs in seven games.
Steve Nash has played in 83 games and has a 52-31 record (62.6 percent )
Regular Season: 23.3 points per game, 12.9 rebounds per game, 3.1 assists per game, 0.8 steals per game, 2.0 blocks per game, 54.1 field goal percentage, 28.6 3-point percentage (27-19)
Playoffs: 24.9 points per game, 13.6 rebounds per game, 3.0 assists per game, 0.8 steals per game, 2.9 blocks per game, 53.3 field goal percentage, 20.0 three-point percentage (25-12)
The Suns and Spurs, as previously said, had some epic clashes. Although Amar’e Stoudemire was a key member of those successful Suns squads, it was Nash who served as the team’s floor general. In 2005, two of the top players in the world were matched against one other. Duncan was named Finals MVP, while Nash was named MVP of the regular season. These two were so good in the regular season and playoffs that they played virtually the same number of games.
Nash was beaten by Duncan not just during his time with the Suns, but also during the playoffs with the Mavericks. Duncan and the Spurs knocked off the Mavericks in the first round of the 2001 playoffs and the Conference Finals in 2003.
Kevin Garnett has a record of 52 games and a record of 33-19. (63.4 percent )
Pounding The Rock is responsible for this image.
Regular Season: 19.0 points per game, 11.9 rebounds per game, 3.2 assists per game, 0.5 steals per game, 1.9 blocks per game, 45.9% field goal percentage, 0.0 3-point percentage (27-17)
20.6 PPG, 11.9 RPG, 3.4 APG, 0.9 SPG, 2.5 BPG, 46.3 FG%, 0.0 3-PT% in the playoffs (6-2)
Garnett’s time with the Timberwolves provided plenty of opportunities for clashes. With these two guys, you’re possibly dealing with the finest defenders in the position. Duncan didn’t quite reach his goal of 20 points each night, but he still managed a double-double. His regular-season record, as well as his postseason record, when he eliminated Garnett twice, speak for themselves.
The Spurs defeated the Timberwolves in the first round in 1999 and 2001. In the semifinals of the 2004 NBA Finals, the Spurs were defeated by the Lakers in six games. If the Spurs had won the series, they would have faced the Timberwolves in the Conference Finals. Garnett was the league MVP that year, and it would have been a thrilling series to see.
Allen Iverson has 29 games and a 19-10 record (65.5 percent )
21.8 PPG, 11.8 RPG, 2.7 APG, 0.6 SPG, 3.0 BPG, 50.5 FG%, 0.0 3-PT% in the regular season (15-9)
20.2 PPG, 10.6 RPG, 5.4 APG, 0.8 SPG, 2.8 BPG, 47.3 FG%, 0.0 3-PT% in the playoffs (4-1)
Duncan was about a foot taller than Iverson. Do you think that frightened him at all? With Iverson on the court, the Spurs were a better team than the 76ers. When Iverson joined the Nuggets and Pistons, he was a part of both teams.
In the midst of the 2006-2007 season, Iverson was moved to the Nuggets. It was there that Iverson encountered Duncan for the first and only time in the playoffs. The Spurs took five games to win the series. Duncan put up a double-double each game, and the rest is history.
Dwyane Wade has 29 games and a 19-10 record (65.5 percent )
Regular Season: 18.1 points per game, 10.5 rebounds per game, 2.2 assists per game, 0.7 steals per game, 1.3 blocks per game, 54.7 field goal percentage, 33.3 three-point percentage (12-5)
17.4 points per game, 11.3 rebounds per game, 1.7 assists per game, 0.7 steals per game, 1.2 blocks per game, 51.6 field goal percentage, 0.0 three-point percentage (7-5)
Fans would have had more chances if Wade had played in the Western Conference, but Duncan would have had more victories. Duncan spent his whole career with the Spurs, while Wade spent his entire career with the Heat. Duncan beat the Heat throughout the regular season, even when Shaq joined the Heat in the summer of 2004.
The two met in back-to-back NBA Finals during the playoffs. Ray Allen and LeBron James’ exploits in Games 6 and 7 helped the Heat win the championship in the 2013 Finals, which lasted seven games. The Spurs dispatched the Heat in five games the following season.
Dirk Nowitzki has 80 games and a 53-37 record (66.2 percent )
NBA.com is responsible for this image.
Regular Season: 20.2 points per game, 11.2 rebounds per game, 2.9 assists per game, 0.6 steals per game, 1.9 blocks per game, 50.7 field goal percentage, 40.0 three-point percentage (35-22)
24.1 PPG, 11.5 RPG, 3.1 APG, 0.7 APG, 1.9 BPG, 54.5 FG%, 0.0 3-PT% in the playoffs (18-15)
Duncan and Nowitzki were long-time rivals. Nowitzki is one of just two players on this list who has faced Duncan at least 80 times. Between the regular season and the playoffs, Nowitzki won 53 games. In addition, he averaged a double-double and shot better than 50% from the field. He even made a few of three-pointers on occasion.
In all seriousness, with both teams playing in Texas, the Spurs and Mavericks had an added flair. Both players played for their respective teams for their whole careers. The two clubs played six times in the playoffs between 2001 and 2014. Duncan was victorious in four of the six series.
Carmelo Anthony has 38 games and a 26-12 record (68.4 percent )
Regular Season: 17.6 points per game, 10.7 rebounds per game, 3.0 assists per game, 0.8 steals per game, 2.5 blocks per game, 52.0 field goal percentage, 0.0 three-point percentage (18-10)
21.1 PPG, 10.9 RPG, 4.4 APG, 0.4 SPG, 2.7 BPG, 47.1 FG%, 0.0 3-PT% in the playoffs (8-2)
When Anthony was on the floor, he was an automatic bucket, but jump shots will only go you so far if you don’t have the proper pieces around you. Duncan was the best player on the Nuggets while Anthony was there. The Spurs eliminated the Nuggets twice in the playoffs, in 2005 and 2007.
Following 2007, they only saw each other for a little period of time. Anthony was a member of the Nuggets until he was traded to the Knicks a few years later. The Knicks have only made it to the playoffs once. Anthony leading the Knicks to the NBA Finals in 2013 to face the Spurs in a repeat of the 1999 NBA Finals would have been great, but it never happened.
Paul Pierce has a record of 30 games and a record of 21-9. (70.0 percent )
Regular Season: 17.6 points per game, 10.7 rebounds per game, 3.0 assists per game, 2.0 steals per game, 2.5 blocks per game, 51.4 field goal percentage, 0-0 three-point percentage (21-9)
There will be no playoffs.
Duncan did most of his damage on Pierce before the big three arrived. Pierce used to be the coach of a terrible Boston squad for a long period. The Celtics were unimpressive when Duncan was named league MVP in 2002 and 2003. Duncan was able to keep his winning streak going until 2007.
The Celtics improved significantly after acquiring Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen in 2007. In 2008, the Spurs were defeated by the Lakers in the Conference Finals. That may have set up a thrilling NBA Finals matchup between Pierce and Duncan, who would have met for the first time.
Vince Carter has a record of 56 games and a 42-14 record (75.0 percent )
Regular Season: 18.3 points per game, 11.0 rebounds per game, 3.2 assists per game, 0.6 steals per game, 2.1 blocks per game, 48.4 field goal percentage, 0.0 three-point percentage (34-11)
Playoffs: 13.1 points per game, 7.6 rebounds per game, 1.5 assists per game, 0.3 steals per game, 1.9 blocks per game, 58.4 field goal percentage, 0.0 three-point percentage (8-3)
Carter was a rising star in the NBA when he joined the Raptors, but it was the traditionalist Duncan who kept the world in order. While many fans enjoyed seeing his high-flying dunks, it was important to remember who was the best player in the NBA. Duncan won 34 regular-season games out of 45.
It made no impact in the playoffs. Carter only defeated Duncan 14 times out of 56 opportunities, which is a bizarre statistic. Carter was a fantastic athlete. Only problem was that Duncan and his troops were superior.
Zach Randolph has 55 games and a 44-11 record (80.0 percent )
Credit: USA TODAY Sports/Soobum Im
Regular Season: 17.5 points per game, 10.4 rebounds per game, 3.7 assists per game, 0.6 steals per game, 2.6 blocks per game, 49.6% field goal percentage, 0.0 3-point percentage (34-7)
Playoffs: 11.5 points per game, 8.9 rebounds per game, 2.6 assists per game, 0.6 steals per game, 2.5 blocks per game, 48.9% field goal percentage, 0.0 3-point percentage (10-4)
Zach Randolph was the only big man in the NBA who could have avoided playing Duncan. Randolph was a human punching bag for Duncan and the Spurs from the Trail Blazers to the Grizzlies. Randolph was a skilled player with a strong physical presence in the center. This applied to the playoffs as well.
