This Week At Bungie 3/17/2022

This week at Bungie, we’re continuing to prepare for the future of Destiny. We’ve been hard at work on a big update that will really shake up the game and make it feel fresh again. Our team is excited about all these changes and what they mean for everyone who plays in The Crucible or raids with friends.

The “bungie weekly update ” is a weekly article that details the happenings of Bungie and their games.

There’s a lot to accomplish in Destiny 2 this week at Bungie.

Hello everyone, and welcome back to our weekly Bungie news roundup. I’m going to be honest with you: I’ve been spending a lot of time this week immersed in The Witch Queen and Season of the Risen. Between the Vow of Disciple raid, PsiOps Battlegrounds, weekly repetitive narrative missions, Throne World mysteries, Master Vox Obscura, Wellspring, Iron Banner Altars of Reflection, and our rituals, there’s enough to keep you busy. It’s tough to think of a good way to start this TWAB. Let’s start with what was announced at the weekly reset on Tuesday and continue from there, shall we?

The Vanguard has had a precarious alliance with Caiatl and the Cabal for the previous several weeks. In the Tower, a trustworthy Psion has been probing the brains of Hive Lieutenants for hints about the Lucent Brood’s plans. Saladin has disclosed the last PsiOps Battleground on the Moon, and he’s calling for Guardians to halt whatever the Hive has begun behind the Scarlet Keep’s walls. Now is the moment to log in if you haven’t done so already this week.

Iron Banner has also returned to the Crucible, bringing with him Power-enabled 6v6 battle. As previously stated, 51172 - This Week At Bungie 3/17/2022

There’s some new stuff to obtain since last week. There are also some new origin benefits on each weapon this time around, offering Guardians a short period of stealth after beating an adversary during the hunt. I’m still looking for the ideal Hand Cannon roll, but until I can get Rapid Hit, my Compulsive Reloader / Kill Clip combination will suffice. Kill Clip increases the “three-tap” of this Hand Cannon archetype, allowing it to destroy Guardians in three precise shots rather than four. If you pace things well and know when to push, it can start some amazing streaks.

While some Guardians are just now stepping into The Witch Queen for the first time, a number of you are already anticipating the Season’s final weeks. We’ll be going through the schedule this week, and we have some updates from the team on crafting currencies, as well as some more notes on feedback that they’re keeping track of.

We’re just a few days away from The Witch Queen’s one-month anniversary. Some of you have completed the Legendary campaign, while others are still exploring the Throne World patrol region for side missions and mysteries. Season of the Risen is still a few months away, so there’s no pressure to finish material. Finish at your own leisure and take in the scenery! If you’re wondering what’s coming up in the next few weeks, we’d like to pencil in a few dates for you to mark on your calendar.

We’ve got some Iron Banner dates to announce, raid tasks to fulfill, and Guardian Games coming up at the conclusion of the season. Please keep in mind that dates are subject to change. We’re also going to throw in a few Gambit Labs weeks, but we want to let the dust settle after the launch balance modifications and a few tuning improvements/bug fixes that are coming up first.

  • Iron Banner and a New PsiOps Battlegrounds Location on March 15 (This Week!)
  • Vow of the Disciple Challenges, Legend PsiOps Battlegrounds, March 22
  • Trials Labs – Zone Capture – April 1st
  • Grandmaster Nightfalls on April 5th

Let’s Talk Trait Element Caps in Crafting

JB Weapon Crafting Cinematic 14 - This Week At Bungie 3/17/2022

Guardians have been working on some tasty weapon rolls in the Enclave on Mars for the last several weeks. Exotic Glaives have been formed! Patterns have been identified, characteristics have been improved, and Exotic Glaives have been made! The team has been keeping an eye on player discourse around crafting, preparing next moves, and looking forward to the future, as with everything Destiny. A hotfix with a few small tweaks is coming next Tuesday, as well as some discussion on feedback issues that the team will aim to address in future patches and tuning runs.

Team in charge of development: We’ve been following some input on crafting currency necessary for various qualities since the debut of The Witch Queen. One item of criticism in particular concerns crafting element caps, since some players have been consistently maxing out their components. We’ll be boosting element caps from 250 to 1000 starting next Tuesday with 4.0.0.4 HOTFIX, and the maximum for Neutral Element will be raised from 8500 to 10000.

Ruinous, Adroit, Mutable, Drowned, and Energetic aspects will be removed from the game next season. Neutral Elements will be the only ones left.

In a post-crafting Destiny 2, our first intentions for these currencies were to maintain interest in non-crafted weapon drops and the pursuit of weapons with well-rolled bonuses. The goal was for the player to keep looking for Subsistence and Rampage combinations to help them move through the Deepsight weapon completion process.

While not the main cause for the removal of particular currencies, there were two pre-launch design alterations that rendered parts ineffective:

We used to have a currency for each characteristic perk (for example, to manufacture with Rampage, you required a weapon with Rampage), but owing to technical and usability concerns (too many currencies to manage, for example), we simplified the element currencies to just a few that we supplied at launch. Unfortunately, this resulted in a drop in enthusiasm for pursuing a certain characteristic perk aspect.

The remaining condensed elements were rendered obsolete by Ascendant Alloys, an Exotic-quality crafting material discovered in high-end content or acquired from Rahool for a premium fee. We were unable to remedy the experience difficulties between these two currencies before to launch since the Ascendant Alloy currency was introduced after we had already compacted the components.

Specific elements like Ruinous and Adroit have become redundant and, in some circumstances, incompatible with Ascendant Alloys and Neutral Elements, therefore they’ve been removed entirely.

We’ve also been monitoring the player chat and keeping track of backend data since launch. While we don’t have details on future improvements to share, we did want to mention a few areas we’re considering:

  • We’d want to provide players greater flexibility over how Deepsight weapons gain weapon Patterns.
  • Deepsight weapon stockpiles, acquisition rates, and advancement, as well as Resonant Alloy acquisition rates and behavior, are all being closely monitored
  • We’re also talking about how to reshape prices for folks who want to change their attribute choices more often.

Many thanks to everyone who has provided input. We’ll keep an eye on the topic even after these modifications go live. As we continue to improve on crafts, combining feedback with data will help us influence our future actions.

Another hotfix is on its way.

This is the outcome of their investigation.

After obtaining 25 Artifact modifications, the Synaptic Fanatic Triumph may not appear for certain characters. If the characters haven’t unlocked all of the modifications yet, players may log into different characters to complete the Triumph. If all characters have unlocked the modifications but haven’t yet earned the Triumph, we’re looking towards a remedy.

Title of the Week’s Film

(I promise, this is only a placeholder.)

TWAB MovieOfTheWeek 2020 Animated - This Week At Bungie 3/17/2022

Hippy: Okay, I won’t do a meme overload like last week since this week has been filled with fantastic Vow of the Disciple raid tributes, sick PvP skills, and more than a few allusions to Season of the Risen’s plot. Did we mention that choosing just a few films from the week is difficult? Because you wonderful globs of sweetness make it so tough. And that’s great; keep them coming!

The first selection is just an amazing film of excellent PvP takedowns set against a lovely background of lulling music and superb editing. Those who can’t do, teach – and, allegedly, nominate for MOTW.

The second pick is a booty-clenching moment in both the worst and greatest ways conceivable, when a fireteam managed to knock down the raid boss on day-1 seconds after they thought they’d lost everything. Epic.

Drown is this week’s film of the week.

Charging is this week’s film of the week.

Sam: I would have laughed at you six months ago if you had told me that part of my job would be to hunt for artwork and memes that highlight our community and the amazing things we can do in game. But you would have been correct, and thank heavens for that since it is one of my favorite times of the week. We’ve got some Rhulk memes this week, as well as a bonus piece that speaks for itself.

So, the legend…. Art of the Week:

Take a breath of fresh air.

While many of us have been hunkered inside enjoying the premieres of The Witch Queen and Season of the Risen, we’ve nearly forgotten about the change of seasons outside. We’ve recently had to adjust our clocks in the US (which still makes no sense to me, and probably never will), and we’ve been enjoying nice spring weather in between a few chilly fronts and rain showers. While it’s tempting to remain inside and level up my Forensic Nightmare SMG, it’s also refreshing to get some fresh air. You know how important it is to keep that balance? Cozmo will sometimes encourage me to go outside and enjoy the feel and textures of a local park.

Play hard, but keep an eye on yourself. After getting stuck on a challenging monster in higher level material, sometimes a brief break is just what you needed all along. Good luck to everyone who is still tackling Legendary difficulty in The Witch Queen’s campaign, and congratulations to those who are embarking on their first-ever Destiny raid. We hope you’re enjoying yourself.

Before we depart, a brief note: the team is currently completing the list of players who have qualified for the Vow of the Disciple Contest Mode insignia, which will be issued within the next week. In the following days, expect more updates from @BungieHelp!

Much love, and I’ll see you again soon.
