The Suicide Squad Trailer Is Here, Task Force X Is Back in Action

finally have a trailer for Suicide Squad The highly anticipated DC Comics film adaptation is scheduled for theaters and HBO Max later this year. This time, it’s James Gunn best known for his work on the Guardians of the Galaxy films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who puts Task Force X to the test. And yes, as the trailer suggests, we will be treated to plenty of R-rating this time around.

James Gunn was at one point fired as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 because of old controversial tweets. Studios were lining up to contract Gunn, and Warner Bros managed to lure him away by letting him continue where David Ayer’s Suicide Squad left off. While the new film is set in the same universe, it is being called a reboot. So it’s at least a radical change from what it was before.

Disney and Marvel Studios have finally re-contracted James Gunn to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, after his stint in the DC Universe ended. Gunn is also working on a spin-off series set in the same world as The Suicide Squad, titled Peacemaker. The focus will be on the character played by John Cena in the upcoming film. The fact that a spin-off series is already being filmed shows that the studio has faith in what Gunn has cobbled together.

The film has a very large cast. Margot Robbie returns as Harley Quinn. The cast also includes Idris Elba (Pacific Rim), John Cena (Blockers), Joel Kinnaman (The Informer), Jai Courtney (Honest Thief), Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who), David Dastmalchian (Ant-Man), Daniela Melchior (The Black Book), Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy), Alice Braga (The New Mutants), Pete Davidson (Saturday night Live), Joaquin Cosio (Narcos: Mexico), Juan Diego Botto (Good Behavior), Storm Reid (Don’t Let Go), Nathan Fillion (Firefly), Steve Agee (Superstore), Sean Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), Mayling Ng (Debt Collectors), Flula Borg (Pitch Perfect 2), Jennifer Holland (Brightburn) and Tinashe Kayese (Cold Case). Rock star Sylvester Stallone and Oscar winner Viola Davis, who returns as Amanda Waller, complete the cast.

Suicide Squad focused on Task Force X, which was given a new mission. This time the team consists of Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and Harley Quinn. They are heavily armed and are dropped off on the remote and hostile island of Corto Maltese. In a jungle teeming with enemies and guerrillas, they embark on a mission of search and destroy, with only Colonel Rick Flag to bring them to their senses. Amanda Waller’s government technicians are within earshot, tracking her every move. One false move and they’re dead.

James Gunn also wrote the script. Charles Roven and Peter Safran are producing and Zack Snyder Deborah Snyder, Walter Hamada, Chantal Nong Vo, Nicholas Korda and Richard Sakul are executive producing. Suicide Squad comes out on the 6th. August in theaters and on HBO Max from Warner Bros Check out the new trailer for yourself.
