The story is about brothers and sisters who, as adults, find themselves with their father following the suicide of the youngest girl in the family. If the Crain family was the ideal family, it would sink the night the mother decides to commit suicide in Hill House. After this tragic episode, Hill House became the most haunted house in the United States. The Crain brothers and sisters are then separated and try to rebuild their lives. But very quickly, as the years go by, the spirits of the past will resurface and risk ruining their lives again.
Directed by Mike Flanagan, a master director in the field, we owe him among others Ouija 2, Inside The House or Not A Noise. Here, the filmmaker takes up the challenge of adapting Shirley Jackson’s best-selling The Haunting fortelevision.
Flanagan also succeeded, thanks to the performances of these actors, in in bringing back the fears of the daily lives ofviewers. Through these ten episodes that make up the series, The Haunting of Hill House surfs on the haunted house and a complex family story for addressing the themes of depression, abandonment and grief. The Haunting of Hill House, revised and redesigned by Mike Flanagan. Usually I don’t care for this kind of revisionism, but this is great. Close to genius, really. I think Shirley Jackson would approve, but who really knows.
