Thanos Vs. The Night King From Game of Thrones: Who’s the Strongest?

If you’re a fan of Marvel and Game of Thrones last weekend was pretty jubilant. On our side, after seeing Avengers: Endgame then the one and a half hour episode of the Battle of Winterfell in season 8 of Game of Thrones a curious idea came to us, compare their fantastic villains alias Thanos and the Night King There are so many similarities between them that we wanted to imagine a fight at the top. And apparently, we’re not the only ones who came up with this idea. Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors of Avengers: Endgame, tweeted a picture of Thanos and the King of the Night standing face to face as if they were going to clash. They wrote: ” Whoever created this… it’s great. #OnViewCombat “.

Thanos and the Night King actually have a lot in common. Both are extremely intelligent, often several moves ahead of their enemies, and both are immortal, until they encounter a Stark. But there’s a big difference between them: Thanos is alive and the Night King is dead. The famous snap of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War would have no effect on the Night King. For fun, we offer several scenarios where we think Thanos would win and some where the King of the Night would win.

The Powers

Both have an impressive range of powers, although those possessed by Thanos seem more useful. He has many ways to defeat the Night King with or without the Gems of Infinity by the way.

The Night King

  • Force
  • Fire resistant (even to dragon fire)
  • Turns metal weapons into ice dust (except Valyrian steel)
  • Reanimates dead people and animals
  • Creates White Walkers from baby boys
  • Militarizes the weather
  • Shooting skills
  • Rides a zombie dragon

  • Force
  • Longevity
  • Psychic abilities
  • Manipulates the material
  • Controls cosmic energy
  • Can use all the Gems of Infinity

Winner : Thanos

The Creatures

The Night King creates his army from the dead. Those killed in battle, such as at the Battle of Winterfell, can be revived by the Night King. In theory, his zombie army could grow indefinitely. They are connected to each other and to the white walkers like bees to a hive. This bond is also their weakness. If a white walker or the Night King is killed, all these zombies die again.

Thanos has an army of Chitauri and Outriders who also have a beehive spirit and can attack and swarm strategically during battle. However, if their command ship is destroyed, they die instantly. In a confrontation between these two armies, Thanos would first have the advantage because his troops have vehicles that can fly and tear up the ground.

However, if the Night King is able to survive long enough to resurrect the dead Chitauri, then he will be able to make up for his losses and eventually overwhelm Thanos.

Winner : King of the Night

Thanos vs. the Night King without armies

We didn’t see the Night King fight in close combat in Game of Thrones In season 8, episode 3, he quickly disarms and stabs Theon Greyjoy who charges him. So he has some provisions. But he has also been surpassed by Arya Stark which is more a testament to Lord Eddard Stark’s ability and quick wit as a younger daughter than a failure of the Night King.

Thanos is a relentless machine when it comes to close combat. He can take hits from the Hulk, Captain Marvel Captain America or Thor. But when he’s submerged, he finds a way to regain ground. And if he has Gems of Infinity, he uses them to subdue his enemies.

If Thanos and the Night King met in a cage fight, we’d put a coin on Thanos. But it wouldn’t be an easy knockout. The fight would probably start with a sword duel. It is not certain that the Sword of Thanos would collapse when it struck the ice blade of the Night King. Let’s remember that in Avengers: Endgame, he may have damaged Captain America’s vibranium shield. Thanos is an accomplished fighter and without weapons, he would have the upper hand over the Night King. At eight feet tall he’s huge compared to the Night King. However, if the battle took place outdoors, the Night King could produce a blizzard to mask his attacks against Thanos. Then he could use his long-range throws to weaken the giant. But it’s unlikely he’ll be able to create a zombie Thanos, because the Mad Titan is immortal.

In the end, it doesn’t matter who would win in these different scenarios. A Thanos match against the Night King would be very entertaining. Who knows, maybe if Marvel and HBO need money in 10 years, there will be a movie like Alien vs. Predator that will properly address this fiction.
