Strictly Come Dancing 2021: Start date, dancer line up and judges

The BBC has announced the start of the Strictly Come Dancing 2021 series. The show will return on Saturday, September 7th and air live on BBC One and BBC One HD.

The strictly come dancing 2021 dancers are set to start in September 2020. There are 20 celebrities, including Gary Lineker and Claudia Winkleman who will be taking part in the show.

We know when Strictly returns — and who will grace the ballroom with their presence! (

The entire Strictly Come Dancing lineup has been announced, and it promises to be a thrilling season.

Strictly returns to screens for its 2021 season this month, and it’s almost time to return to the ballroom once again.

While the program’s 2020 season, won by Bill Bailey and Mabuse, Oti, was cut short due to Covid, we’ve been assured that the show would return this year with a full-length season in all its foxtrotting, tango-ing splendor (even if we do have to wait a while longer for the Blackpool week to come back).

In addition, four new professional dancers will join the competition, and Anton du Beke will replace Bruno Tonioli on the judging panel.

But Strictly isn’t complete without its celebrity cast, and all 15 names have now been announced.

Here’s all we know about the 2021 series so far, including the premiere date, celebrity lineup, and more…

When will Strictly Come Dancing premiere in 2021?

The premiere show for Strictly 2021 will air on Saturday, September 18 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

The premiere will broadcast at 7.45 p.m. on channel One; however, it is unclear if It Takes Two will follow immediately on channel Two.

On Friday, September 24, shortly after midnight, you may watch the premiere program on Two.

The celebrities are matched with their pro partners during the premiere event, with the live performances starting two or three weeks later to allow for preparation.

The live performances this year begin on Saturday, September 25.

Who will compete in Strictly Come Dancing in 2021?

Tom Fletcher is a British actor.

Tom Fletcher, the star of McFly and a children’s book, was the first person to be revealed for the 2021 series. Given that bandmate Harry Judd is a previous Strictly champion who won the Glitterball award in 2011, he has some huge dancing shoes to fill.

‘It has just now dawned on me that I will be dancing on Strictly this year!’ Tom remarked.

‘Of course, I’m really thrilled, but I’m also very scared! My kids were also ecstatic until I began doing my best dad-dancing routine in the kitchen.

‘I don’t know how far they’ll take me in the tournament, but I’m excited to add some new routines to my ridiculous dad-dancing arsenal.’

Webb, Robert

Robert Webb

Robert Webb, an actor and comedian, was the second name to be verified (Picture: )

The second name to be announced for this year’s event was actor Robert Webb, who is most known for his work with comedic partner David Mitchell.

‘I am ecstatic to be participating in Strictly this year. I can’t wait to be packed into a spandex onesie and blasted from a glitter cannon straight at Claudia Winkleman for this huge, generous, happy show,’ he added.

‘At least, that’s what I believe occurs. My aim is to make it through each week without seriously injuring myself or innocent bystanders. I’m well aware that it will be difficult.

‘Winning this tournament is primarily a test of character, but it is also a test of dance.’

Robert is no stranger to television dance contests, having won Let’s Dance For Comic Relief in 2009 with his famous rendition of Flashdance.

AJ Odudu

The third celebrity to be announced for Strictly 2021 is TV personality AJ Odudu.

‘I am absolutely thrilled that I am going to be on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, and I’m so happy I can finally tell my mother,’ said the Blackburn native, who is best known for shows such as The Voice, The Voice Kids, Big Brother’s Bit On The Side, and Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins. Her face will be a picture, and she’ll be overjoyed!

‘I adore the show and am completely dedicated to make the most of every moment of my Strictly experience.’ ‘Go for it!’

She claimed her mother would be “over herself” on The One Program, adding, “I can’t even tell you how much we adore the show.” This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

‘I have seven siblings, and you know how parents say they don’t have a favorite kid? This right here is favorite child status.’

Whaite, John

John Whaite

John Whaite, a former Bake Off winner, has been revealed as the fourth celebrity to join the Strictly lineup.

He has revealed that he will be a member of the show’s first-ever all-male pairing.

‘I’m ecstatic, anxious, and thrilled to be a part of the Strictly 2021 family. I’ve been wearing sequins and jazzy clothing since I was three years old, and I can’t wait to fling myself around the world’s most beautiful dance floor,’ John added.

‘What excites me even more is that I’ll be a member of the first all-male collaboration, which is a huge step forward in terms of representation and inclusiveness.’ I hope whomever I’m partnered with is ready for a challenge, because I want our routines to include a lot of amazing lifts!’

John won Bake Off in 2012 and has subsequently been on shows such as This Morning, What’s Culinary, and Sunday Brunch, as well as presenting ITV’s cooking show Chopping Block.

Rhys Stephenson is a British author.

Rhys Stephenson, the face of the children’s channel C, was revealed as a competitor on August 6.

On C, the TV personality revealed the news, saying he was “surprise, thrilled, and immediately eager to begin.”

In a statement, he stated, “I am BUZZING to be a part of Strictly Come Dancing 2021.”

‘I’ve always wanted to be on this program, and I’m certain it will live up to my expectations. I can’t wait to see everything, from the costumes to the orchestra to Craig’s stare! ‘I’M READY!’

And don’t worry, kids: Stephenson has said that the program would not conflict with his obligations to C.

‘Craig is the one you want to impress because he has a steely look, but then again, I adore Motsi,’ Rhys said of the judges.

‘Motsi is Craig’s polar opposite. I want a hug from her when she leaps over the table to give you one.’

Stephenson has featured on The Dengineers and Newsround, as well as hosting a variety of programs on C, ranging from Blue Peter to Saturday Mash-Up!

MBE Sara Davies

Sara Davies MBE (Picture: Rex/) joins the cast on August 9th.

On Monday, August 9, the Dragons’ Den star was announced as the next Strictly hopeful.

On Good Morning Britain, she was introduced as a new member to the program, joining Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway on the couch.

‘It always seemed like a pipe dream until I joined Dragon’s Den and Deb [Meaden] would speak about it, and then I thought one day maybe,’ the entrepreneur added.

She did, however, disclose her limited dancing experience, saying, “I’m very excellent when I’ve had a few drinks on a Saturday night, but otherwise I’m not so sure.”

Davies also managed to keep the news from her parents in case it was accidentally revealed too soon.

‘My Mam and Dad are going to be overjoyed,’ she said. I’m really anxious since the producers have repeatedly asked whether I can dance. To be honest, I don’t have a clue! I haven’t danced since I was a child when I took ballet classes.

‘I learned in the business world that persistence, drive, and dedication produce results, and I want to bring that to the dancefloor.’ And I’m looking forward to seeing the results of all those hours of training on my mother’s tum!’

Davies, who debuted on Dragons’ Den in 2019, was the show’s youngest Dragon and has won over 30 business accolades.

Katie McGlynn is a writer.

On Tuesday, August 10, soap actor Katie McGlynn was revealed as the seventh celebrity competitor on Breakfast.

Keeping the joyful news under wraps has been “very hard,” according to the former Coronation Street, Waterloo Road, and Hollyoaks star.

‘It’s been so difficult keeping it a secret, but I can now announce that I’m getting set to shake my shimmy and join the Strictly family!’ she said.

‘I’m not a dancer, but I’m really looking forward to learning a new talent on this wild trip and can’t wait to wear some sequins.’

‘As an actor, I get to have a lot of fun, but a lot of my parts have had very serious and difficult stories, so I’m eager to let my hair down and do something totally different, even if it’s absolutely outside of my comfort zone.’

‘I can’t guarantee that I’ll be the greatest, but I’ll give it my all on the dance floor!’ she said. I’ll be content as long as I don’t fall over.’

Dan Walker is a writer and a musician.

Dan Walker, the host of Breakfast, will be the seventh celebrity to appear on the program, just minutes after Katie McGlynn was revealed.

Dan is well-known for his on-again, off-again relationship with Piers Morgan.

‘I’m not making any space on our shelf for the glitterball,’ Dan joked after his announcement.

‘I am ecstatic, a little nervous, mainly frightened, and a tiny part of me is contemplating hiding!’ Added he.

‘My children have only ever requested that I appear on two shows: Saturday Mash-Up and Strictly Come Dancing. This summer, I did Saturday Mash-Up, so it’s time to embrace the sequins.’

Naga Munchetty had an appearance on Strictly last year, so breakfast stars are no strangers to the ballroom.

Judi Love

On the August 13 episode of Loose Women, comedian and TV personality Judi Love was revealed as this year’s final Strictly contestant.

‘This is completely out of my comfort zone, but what an opportunity…,’ Judi said. I’m ecstatic; this is a whole new experience for me.’

When asked who she would want to be partnered with, she expressed her desire to dance with Graziano Di Prima, praising his “beautiful long hair.”

Ramsay, Tilly

After weeks of speculation, Gordon Ramsay’s 19-year-old daughter Matilda “Tilly” Ramsay was revealed as the tenth competitor for the 2021 season.

The news was announced on This Morning on August 11, one year after Tilly was ruled out of the 2020 season due to a broken arm.

Tilly told Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, “I’m so thrilled and thankful to be joining the Strictly family!” Tilly, who has 9.5 million TikTok followers, said, “I’m so happy and grateful to be joining the Strictly family!” I’m always ready for new adventures, and this will be my most exciting yet!

‘I’m putting my heart and soul into this, and I can’t wait to put on my dance shoes and show my Dad how it’s done!’ Bring on the sequins, glitter, and glam!’

The TikTok star received a video message from her parents, in which her frightening father Gordon advised her not to date those dancers.

‘Thank god it’s her and not you!’ Tilly’s mother Tana quipped about her husband’s dance stills (or lack thereof).

She said that her parents would want to be in the live studio audience every week, so fans should look for Gordon in the audience.

Greg Wise

Greg Wise, an actor, is the twelfth celebrity announced for Strictly 2021.

On August 11, the 55-year-old, who is married to Emma Thompson, revealed the news on This Morning.

‘I’m ready to go, at least fit,’ he told Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes. I’d want to become a little stronger so that I can perform a Swayze lift.

‘I haven’t learnt any dancing moves and can’t dance in the least. So that’s a fantastic place to start.’

When asked how his wife Emma felt about his choice to show off his dancing abilities, Greg said, “She is insanely thrilled.”

When asked why he is participating, he said that his late sister, Clare, was the driving force behind his choice, which he made after she died of cancer in 2016.

‘My lovely sister used to be a big disco queen. In a glitter ball casket, she departed our world nearly precisely five years ago,’ he said. ‘This is for her,’ says the narrator. My beautiful diva sister, who would have been giddy with joy that her little brother was doing this.

‘Because her brother can’t dance, I’ll channel her – but I’m delighted to be plunging my toes, knees, hips, and arms into this beautiful world, and I want to make her proud, and obviously make her laugh.’

Nina Wadia is a model and actress.

Nina Wadia, well known for her role as Zainab Masood on EastEnders, was the twelfth candidate revealed.

Nina announced her participation in Lorraine on August 12th.

Nina said on the program, ‘I’m terrified.’ ‘I like dancing as though no one is watching.’ So all we have to do now is blindfold the judges and I’ll win.’

Nina explained her motivation for joining: ‘I simply want to take life by the balls and enjoy it.’

Ayling-Ellis, Rose

On August 13, EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis was confirmed for the 2021 season of Strictly Come Dancing, making her the show’s first-ever deaf competitor.

The Frankie Lewis actor expressed her enthusiasm for the next season, saying, “To be the first deaf competitor on Strictly Come Dancing is extremely thrilling… and a little bit frightening.”

‘It’s the most difficult secret I’ve ever had to keep, so it’s fantastic to finally have it out in the open!’

‘I want to make the deaf community proud and break down additional boundaries,’ she said. But I’m also extremely eager to learn a fantastic new talent, and even better, I get to learn while wearing gorgeous gowns created just for me!’

Peaty, Adam

Olympic gold medalist Adam Peaty was announced as the fourteenth celebrity to appear on the program on August 13.

The news was revealed on Radio 1’s Newsbeat on August 13th, only days after the swimmer won two gold medals at Tokyo 2020.

‘I’ve swum for seven years and I’ve gone through the continuous cycle of championship, go back to training, go back to the drawing board, another championship… but I’ve never felt really uncomfortable,’ Peaty said.

‘This is going to be fascinating, but I’m going to feel very uncomfortable.’

‘I’m going to do something I’ve never done before, and hopefully have a great time,’ he said.

Peaty then quipped that depending on how good he is at dancing, he may not go back to swimming.

‘I believe a lot of people will be surprised by this, but I’m so happy to finally share the news that I’ll be joining Strictly this year,’ he said.

‘I’m definitely looking forward to trying something new and pushing myself outside of the pool.’

‘I’m hoping that my competitive spirit will compensate for my lack of dance ability!’

Ugo Monye

Ugo Monye

Ugo Monye, a 38-year-old former England rugby player and presenter, was the 15th and last celebrity to be announced for the upcoming season.

Ugo’s involvement was revealed on Mo Gilligan’s The Lateish Show, and he is ecstatic to be a part of it.

‘What a dream come true!’ he stated in a statement. Strictly is the most popular entertainment program on television, and I can’t wait to show everyone that I’m more than simply a dad when it comes to dancing.

‘My two beautiful children never got to see me play rugby, but knowing they can see me waltz and twirl every week is extremely important to me.’

‘At the best of times, I adore an outfit, so bring on the sequins!’

‘I will not be dancing,’ she told Alex Jones in June. I don’t want to cry since I’ve been crying a lot today, but accepting this incredible honor to join It Takes Two has been the most difficult aspect.

‘I am still a member of the Strictly family, I will continue to meet my fellow professionals on a regular basis, and I will keep dancing, as they say.’ I’ll figure out a way to keep dancing.’

Who are this year’s Strictly judges?

This year, Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas, and Motsi Mabuse will all return to the judging panel, and Anton du Beke will join them.
