Both devices have a data sheet that is almost identical in every respect. They are equipped with the famous Exynos 8895, a 2.30 GHz processor engraved in 10 nm FinFET, which promises excellent performance and a significant saving in autonomy.

Coupled with that, there are 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM that have already proven their worth on smartphones, with basic storage this time up to 64GB. Their USB type C port is DisplayPort compatible, allowing the use of the famous DeX dock to transform your smartphone into a real desktop PC.

Infinity Displays for Galaxy S8 and S8+

Of course, the big stars of the show are none other than the so-called “Infinity Display” screens of the Galaxy S8 and S8+. With 5.8″ and 6.2″ diagonals each, they do not cause the device to be larger due to their borderless and edge design.

These displays will be in Full HD by default, but can be upgraded to WQHD+ if required. They are also HDR compatible for brighter colours and higher contrast.

However, the front panel no longer has any buttons. The fingerprint scanner is therefore relayed to the back of the phone, next to the photo sensor. A placement that requires a certain amount of time to adapt according to the first returns on the phones.

Nice front camera overhang, but not rear

At the front, a new 8-megapixel Dual Pixel sensor awaits you for ever cleaner selfies, especially since it now has an autofocus for the sharpest possible photos.

At the rear, however, no real change since the Galaxy S8s integrate the same sensor as the Galaxy S7s. However, this one gains a nice software improvement called “multi-frame processor” which will analyze the data of 3 different simultaneous captures to get the best rendering, like HDR.

Coupled with this, an iris scanner on the front of the phone allows you to secure access to your smartphone and even some of your files. For speed, you can also activate facial recognition.

New features but few changes

In addition to their new displays, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ do not necessarily offer more innovative features. Note, however, that they will be the first to take advantage of Bluetooth 5.0, which will allow two audio devices to be connected at the same time.

The batteries in the phones remain more or less the same despite the ever-larger screens, which could cause problems with battery life. We will address all this in depth during our tests.

Apart from that, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ will of course be entitled to their official accessory packs. But one spring in particular: the Samsung DeX, which allows you to transform your smartphone into a real desktop computer that keeps all your usual files.
