Saint Medard en Jalles – Gironde (33160)

The opinion of Marie Ledoux (Saint medard en jalles)

on the town of SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES

Too much concrete

A sleepy, concrete dormitory town.

What I like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES The shops are hard to beat.

What I don’t like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES Concrete; roundabouts; lack of activities especially for Young People weekends. There is a lack of consultation between elected officials and the mayor on many issues… A falsely bourgeois town!

A city too bourgeois

I arrived in Saint Médard en Jalles in 1991. It was very pleasant, the countryside!

What I like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES The proximity of the sea, the woods, the contacts with close neighbours.

What I don’t like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES There is less and less green space. Houses are too expensive to buy. In Corbiac, the apartments built near the school are too close to each other. Too bad! The city centre is too much concrete.

The opinion of Issac (Saint médard en jalles)

on the town of SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES

Worse and worse!

If you want to hear the birds in the morning when you wake up… Forget about that right now… Saint médard is a permanent construction site where concreting is master! Weekend getaway is the deal. Finally we get tired of it very quickly since it n’t change too much!

What I like in SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES The cycle tracks… And, uh… The water space. I wanted to add the forest but it disappears at a glance.

What I don’t like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES This town is boring to death. I’m desperately looking for weekend activities. I’m 22 years old and like all the young people in this town, on Friday it’s off to Bordeaux. There is no atmosphere, no bars open in the evening, no one on the streets after 7pm or even before. Roundabouts make me dizzy, they’re everywhere. The western district is poorly served by public transport, especially in the evening, I work in Bordeaux and finish late some days and I am forced to call a relative to come and pick me up in the city centre at the terminus because we are no longer served. I have made many requests, in vain, because stops that are not frequent enough cost too much money to the town hall!

The opinion of Nathalie Clavier (Saint-Médard-en-Jalles)

on the town of SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES

A story to keep

Close to the sea, close to the city, still quiet – despite the airplanes passing by and passing by…

What I like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES The history of the town, which is very rich, that I discovered in the two volumes of the book by the author from Saint-Médardais Val Tillet. A lot has happened and we don’t know!

What I don’t like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES Too much roundabout sense (we spend our time shooting) a heritage, such as the chateau de gajac, the bourdieu, not enough highlighted. Be careful not to make it a soulless commune!

Ah! Transport!

Resident since 2004, I enjoy living in Saint Médard.

What I like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES The proximity of nature (forests, ocean…).

What I don’t like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES Public transport: shabby. To go to the high school in Bordeaux by bus: 1h45 by car: 0h35 there is no photo! Long live car pollution when you’re a Saint of the West Mediterránea.

The opinion of Pierre Boulay (Corbiac)

on the town of SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES

St medard before, st medard today, st medard tomorrow!

Resident since 1978 yesterday: the village, today it becomes a city!

What I like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES Clean, pleasant town, always in perpetual movement, very well frequented, surrounded by pine forests, a beautiful cycle path, beautiful buildings, the Cajac mill, the town hall, the church. In fact it’s good to live in St Medard-en-Jalles

What I don’t like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES The planes, the taxes that are constantly increasing, the auto-motorbike circuit of Merignac, the…

City notice

Dormitory town, deplorable mentality.

What I like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES Proximity to the ocean, relative calm.

What I don’t like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES No parking, municipality building too much housing, no green space in the centre, chauvinistic and individualistic spirit.

More and less of Saint-Medard-En-Jalles

What I like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES The Bordeaux-Lacanau track for bikes. The proximity to Bordeaux. Security.

What I don’t like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES The planes that pass over the Caupian area in the morning before 7:00 am and in the evening. Lack of parks or green spaces.

The opinion of Audrey (St medard en jalles)

on the town of SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES

Sleeping Beauty…

St Médard en jalles is a town on the edge of the cube, because it is close to everything: Bordeaux, airport, jobs, ocean, Arcachon basin, forest, shopping center… But other than that, it is indeed a dormitory town…

What I like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES Its Saturday market, its cycle tracks, its calm, its security, its geographical location, its media library.

What I don’t like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES The spirit everyone at home (but hey, we’re in the Gironde…), the lack of life in the town centre, the lack of entertainment, the fact that some districts like Caupian are totally ignored by the municipality (apart from offering us roundabouts and new useless roads).

The opinion of Valérie (saint médard en jalles)

on the town of SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES

Let’s hope that changes!

Saint médard is a satellite city of Bordeaux… which could be called the Dormitory City…

What I love about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES The square of the tiles !

What I don’t like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES A lot of things: no green space, no children’s park, sidewalks that are not maintained when they are… it is the only city to my knowledge that has streets where sidewalks are replaced by pebble bins (sic) which are handy when you are on foot and even better when you are handicapped! I’m not talking about the parking aspect… Recent attempts to flower the city… it’s about time! No nightlife… when you get out of the cinema you can’t have a drink anywhere… hairdressers, banks and real estate agencies abounding… the best!

The opinion of Michèle Garbay (St Médard en Jalles)

on the town of SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES

Nostalgic

I arrived in St Médard en Jalles 30 years ago I fell in love with it because there were still fields everywhere, it was still the countryside. Today, in 2008, the majority of these fields have been converted into residences.

What I like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES Its Bordeaux-Lacanau cycle path, being close to the beach and not too far from Bordeaux.

What I don’t like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES There is no longer a green space big enough to walk in, everything has become concrete. There is nothing in the evenings for young people outside the cinema, no playroom, etc… St. Médard is becoming a dormitory town and I’m sorry about that.

The opinion of A. (Saint Médard en Jalles)

on the town of SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES

Crossroads between city, country and ocean

The advantages of city and country without the disadvantages. Very quick access to Bordeaux and the ocean and access to the woods without using the car.

What I like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES Cycling on the Bordeaux/Lacanau cycle path, the quick access to the ocean and above all everything you need, on site, to live well!

What I don’t like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES Traffic jams, lack of parking spaces and the construction of a brand new town centre…

The opinion of J. D. (Saint-Médard-en-Jalles)

on the town of SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES

The Wild West next door to you

Outlying and very large city (hence many constraints) . Willingness of the city to keep its square meadow and make it an amorphous dormitory city.

What I like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES Its geographical location (opening onto the coast and the Médoc), the calm that reigns there, the proximity of the forests.

What I don’t like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES The provincial petit bourgeois side with corpses full of corpses so well described by Claude Chabrol in his films.

CONTENT AND MECONTENT

I was born in Saint Médard, a town that I love very much but I knew it with 5,000 inhabitants, now there are 30,000 of us. For me a lot has changed, and not necessarily in the right direction.

What I like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES Nature, which will deteriorate with the Bordeaux bypass. The new face of our city centre. Fishing, with unfortunately very little development at the Etang du Broustéra.

What I don’t like about SAINT MEDARD EN JALLES The lack of animation in the town centre, we can do better.
