Saint Leu La Foret – Val-d’oise (95320)

The opinion of Aude P. (Saint Leu La Forêt)

on the town of SAINT LEU LA FORET

The countryside near Paris!

I’ve been living there since 2007 and I really love this country town 20km from Paris. I have the forest at the end of my street and I really appreciate this aspect of the countryside.

What I like about SAINT LEU LA FORET I like the village aspect of this town, the old train station, its history, the forest of Montmorency, the market, its small hidden streets (once reserved for lepers).

What I don’t like about SAINT LEU LA FORET Its lack of activity for Young People Its lack of middle-class youth in general (the price of real estate has a lot to do with it). Its population is a bit bourgeois, standing, and sometimes contemptuous.

on the town of SAINT LEU LA FORET

A city to flee

A dormitory city and soon to be video-surveillance.

What I like in SAINT LEU LA FORET The market, the Post Office café.

What I don’t like about SAINT LEU LA FORET The future CCTV cameras totally useless, the lack of youth policy, the lack of consideration for pedestrians, the train only every half hour, the very conservative mentality.

The opinion of Michèle Bouquin-Raybaud (Villeneuve Loubet 06)

on the town of SAINT LEU LA FORET

A former Saint Loupienne

I lived in St Leu from 1954 to 2006 and I left it definitively and without regret for a retreat on the French Riviera, but this small town was charming, I have very good memories of it, my father was a town councillor there for 14 years, but since the construction of large buildings, the population has changed a lot. The election of his new mayor may give him a new lease on life. It had become a dormitory town, the traders were closing one after the other, the market so active had lost half of its merchants.

What I love about SAINT LEU LA FORET The nearby forest, having spent my youth on the chauvry road, and the memory of ice-skating on the small pond now a green space. The history of St leu is so rich, the friends or relations preserved but becoming rarer, nevertheless nostalgia is there one does not spend more than 50 years of one’s life in a city forgetting it. Of course when I have the opportunity to come back to the Paris region, I don’t fail to come back. But spending his retirement in St. Leu or the Paris area isn’t. But St leu is still a city on a human scale.

What I don’t like about SAINT LEU LA FORET These large, four-storey, constructed buildings, like white earth would have sufficed, which, by the way, was later done, and the small suburban residences, although some are horizontal buildings. I prefer st leu from above, although I lived on the plain. The problem of st leu is the railway which cuts the city in two and the urbanization of the plain badly made, the shopping center should have been implanted before the residences dixit the owner for which I worked at the time and the shopping center of the doors of taverty which drains the population, with its parking places and the choice of many shops.

The opinion of Jean C. (Saint-Leu-la-Forêt)

on the town of SAINT LEU LA FORET

A city to be restored quickly!

Saint-Leu is a charming little town currently in great danger of becoming a suburb like any other if great attention is not paid to all the assets of this town.

What I like about SAINT LEU LA FORET Attempts to re-energize the town centre through active support for shopkeepers (parking spaces, entertainment, traditional festivals) but unfortunately not yet enough shopkeepers, the desire to gradually restore the town’s heritage, to embellish everything that can be embellished.

What I don’t like about SAINT LEU LA FORET Invasive advertising billboards, which should be removed from major thoroughfares, tags and graffiti on street furniture that are still too numerous, lack of surveillance cameras

The opinion of Alain Jarraud (Saint leu la forêt)

on the town of SAINT LEU LA FORET

Saint leu

It was still a village when my family moved in, there was a farm, the patronage of Thursday, the grain mill and the old families of the place, and the toilets in the courtyard.

What I like about SAINT LEU LA FORET The proximity of the forest, its history, especially because it is smeared with myths such as the scents of the lepers its town centre, it has changed little in 50 years, Gérard de Narval talks about it (see Les filles du feu) it is not nothing. Ah yes, the station, it’s beautiful.

What I don’t like about SAINT LEU LA FORET There is now too much traffic, and the village (the old town), which was originally reserved for the poor, is now for the wealthy. The cemetery, it’s ugly.

The opinion of Pauline Frangot (Argenteuil)

on the town of SAINT LEU LA FORET

A city that is changing

Saint Leu is a dynamic and pleasant city. This city of 20,000 inhabitants is gradually transforming itself for the happiness of some or the misfortune of others. The majority of young people are in favour of change and the older conservatives…

What I like about SAINT LEU LA FORET A quiet town close to everything, 15km from Paris, 20 minutes away you can go to the countryside as well as to ultra-urbanised towns. It is an ideally placed city where social mixing is a success.

What I don’t like about SAINT LEU LA FORET The lack of a cinema or structures for assets.

Less dog feces, smarter traffic flow… That’s what Saint-Leu lacks to come close to the right note.
