Barcelona’s Luis Suarez and Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema are both struggling to find form at the moment. Suarez has actually been one of Barcelona’s best players this season, but he can’t seem to hold down a starting spot. It’s a similar story for Benzema, who seems to have lost his place in Real Madrid’s starting lineup. While there’s no need to panic, we can see them slipping in to form, so here are the players you might want to keep an eye on for potential transfer rumors.
This summer’s transfer window has been full of titanic deals, but which of the elite players are set to make the biggest impact this season? I’ve gone through all the teams and found the best player at each position.
Ronaldo Alonso, better known as Ronaldo, is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays for Spanish club Real Madrid and the Portugal national team. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest football players of all time.
The new LaLiga season begins on Friday, and despite the blockbuster departure of Lionel Messi to French superpower Paris Saint-Germain, the Spanish league will not be short of stars.
– Who should you support in La Liga? – LaLiga, Bundesliga, MLS, FA Cup, and more on ESPN+
Alexander Isak and Mikel Oyarzabal, who will be driving for Real Sociedad, are two guys to keep an eye on. Lucas Ocampos, Youssef En-Nesyri, and Jules Kounde, together with newcomer Erik Lamela, have all contributed to Sevilla FC’s success. After winning the 2020-21 Europa League, Gerard Moreno, who scored 23 goals last season, will seek to lead Villarreal to even greater success.
However, the difference-makers are likely to be found among the three championship favorites: Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, and Barcelona.
Camp Nou is waiting for Pedri to make his debut and Ansu Fati to recuperate from knee surgery, while the Bernabeu is counting on Vinicius Jr. to reach his full potential. Joao Felix will try to take the next step toward superstardom at the Wanda Metropolitano, the home of reigning champions Atletico Madrid.
Those individuals will be worth watching, but the real game-changers are a small number of players who are capable of guiding their teams to victory in a field of three that is more evenly matched than ever before.

33 years old Real Madrid is a Spanish football club. Forward position
After Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid in 2018, Benzema had a lot on his plate, and he has risen to the occasion. In each of the past three seasons, his goal output has risen, transforming him from a luxury to a one-of-a-kind talent, a position he will reprise this season under manager Carlo Ancelotti. Real Madrid’s championship hopes are dependent on his talent, agility, breakout speed, and finishing abilities. Real Madrid has won LaLiga three times in the previous ten seasons.

Diego Simeone’s choices will once again be dictated by his scoring, which was crucial during Atletico’s march to a championship that has evaded them since 2014. Suarez’s winning spirit, fury, and finishing mindset have kept him in the top tier despite slowing down with time. Since his arrival from Barcelona last summer, when he became a club hero, the Wanda Metropolitano fans have put their confidence in him unreservedly.

Nobody doubted Barcelona’s efforts to recruit him in January 2019, and no one doubts how the Dutch star will be relied upon to lead the club post-Messi. De Jong is a fantastic all-around midfielder with a lot of versatility. He can play as a defender or an attacker. His field vision is as impressive as his long-ball moves, and his second-line arrival is exceptional. If his leadership skills are to transform him into a difference-maker, he has no time to waste.

Griezmann has no more excuses now that Messi is gone. With the freedom of mobility he had at Atletico and that he brought to Camp Nou in 2019, where he remains a divisive figure, he can reclaim a leadership position. His subtle transcendence betrays the quality of his work. Barca supporters hope that in his third season, he can finally reach his full potential and become the difference-maker he has proven he can be.

28 years old Atletico Madrid is a Spanish football club. Goalkeeper’s position
Last season, Atletico Madrid demonstrated that championships are won in the box, thanks to Oblak’s excellent goalkeeping and Suarez’s outstanding solvency. Oblak was the most effective goalkeeper in the Spanish top division, conceding just 25 goals to help Atletico continue their winning streak. Oblak has excellent reflexes, is able to maintain control above ground, and is decisive when it comes to departing the posts. His in-depth knowledge of Atletico’s defense makes him a dependable leader inside that unit.

35 years old Real Madrid is a Spanish football club. Midfielder (position)
Nine seasons after his arrival, the dynamic midfielder is ready to deliver a spectacular last act. When his contract ends next year, Real Madrid will undoubtedly be without him. His physical peak is a distant memory at 35, which is why his exceptional placement, finishing touch, and range of vision make him essential. His excellent football IQ also enables him to simplify his approach to the game.

29 years old Barcelona is a Spanish football club. Goalkeeper’s position
On the national team of Germany, Ter Stegen is overshadowed by the unstoppable Manuel Neuer, but with Barcelona, he is the unquestioned defender, albeit leading a defense that has seen better days. Ter Stegen is a determined goalkeeper who reacts quickly and deftly, although balls in the air may be a challenge for him. Despite this, he remains a real leader in the backfield, with outstanding footwork and direction on deep throws.

29 years old Real Madrid is a Spanish football club. Defender’s position
After ten years at Bayern Munich, the Austrian will be relied upon to head a Madrid defense that will be trying to fill the gap left by Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane’s exits. Alaba, one of the summer’s most important acquisitions, is a versatile defender who can play inside or out wide and even in midfield. Bayern’s success may be attributed to his versatility and ability to combine talents, and one might assume that same qualities will carry over into his Spanish adventure.

27 years old Barcelona is a Spanish football club. Forward position
Barcelona’s top signing comes at a crucial time, with Lionel Messi gone and the pressure on manager Ronald Koeman to show he’s more than a whim. Depay’s popularity soared after suffering at Manchester United, and he transformed into a complete striker capable of scoring and adjusting to the circumstances at Lyon during the past four seasons. He’s fast with the ball in his hands, great on set pieces, spectacular in the last third, and a master of the combo. He has the potential to be an important player for Barcelona.

Courtois is a colossal goalkeeper who stands practically alone on high-flying balls. He has great reflexes, strong concentration, and is fast in unexpected circumstances. The winner of the Zamora Trophy for best goalkeeper in 2019-20 has established himself as a force in LaLiga and will play a major role in a revitalized Real Madrid. With Ramos and Varane gone, he’ll have more leadership duties.
