The Raspberry Pi Foundation has just unveiled a new version of its famous nanocomputer, the Raspberry Pi 3B+. The main focus is on the network with faster data rates to facilitate server mode operation.
Apart from the simplified “Zero” models, the last improvement of the Raspberry Pi was made in 2016 with the 3B model integrating Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low-Energy. Two years later, the Raspberry Pi Foundation is back with a new and slightly improved version.
This is unfortunately not a Raspberry Pi 4, but a Raspberry Pi 3N+. Understand that the nano-computer is broadly based on the 2016 model with some welcome adjustments, such as an overclocking of its processor, which goes from 1.2 to 1.4 GHz (while remaining based on a quad-core Cortex-A53 architecture), or an improvement of its Bluetooth sound from 4.1 to 4.2.
The most interesting thing, however, is its network improvement. Indeed, this new raspberry integrates an 802.11ac WiFi chip that slightly improves speeds on 2.4 GHz networks, but almost triples its speed when connected to a 5 GHz network.
This PCB is also equipped with a Gigabit Ethernet port. Contrary to what the name suggests, this port does not reach speeds above 1024 Mb/s due to its limited connection to the processor (USB 2.0) and therefore only needs 315 Mb/s, which is still more than three times faster than the previous model.

Other more minor changes have also been made, such as better thermal management and support for Power over Ethernet (PoE), which allows raspberry power to be supplied through the Ethernet port. However, this requires a PoE HAT to adapt the power, to come “soon”.
This Raspberry Pi 3B+ is available from authorized dealers today. In France, for example, it can be found at 38.90 euros at Kubii. And if all these novelties don’t interest you more than that, the “basic” 3B model is still available at 30.66 euros at Gearbest with the code FR183808.
The Raspberry Pi is a computer based on an ARM processor and sold at a very low cost, which can be found at 40 euros alone or 70 euros for a full package. Thanks to this, the solution very quickly found a…
