As expected, the Remote Play feature of the PlayStation 4 is available today on both Mac and Windows. The computer software can be downloaded from the Sony website [5.3 MB]. It requires OS X Yosemite or Windows 8.1 as a minimum. This function, called “PS4 Remote Play” in French, allows you to play your PS4 games on your computer.
First of all, you have to activate the function on your PS4 (firmware 3.50 required):
- Activate remote playback. Select [Settings] > [Remote Playback Connection Settings] and then select the [Enable Remote Playback] check box.
- Activate the system as the main PS4 system. Select [Settings] > [PlayStation Network/Account Management] > [Activate as Main PS4 > [Activate].
- To start remote playback when the PS4 system is in idle mode, select [Settings] > [Power Management Settings] > [Set the features available in idle mode]. Then select the [Stay connected to the Internet] and [Allow PS4 to be activated from the network] checkboxes.
After installing the utility on a Mac, you need to connect the DualShock 4 to your Mac via USB and then log in with your PlayStation account. The utility automatically searches for the PS4 on the network.
Sony recommends an internet connection of at least 12 Mb/s for optimal performance (720p at 60 fps). If we have a lower speed, we will only get 360p or 540p.
