On 29 January 2020, Netflix announced the production of a live action series adapted from One Piece on its Twitter account As a reminder, the project was first mentioned on the web in 2017. At the time, the name Netflix was not mentioned. Nevertheless, a few months later, an insert dedicated to the One Piece series appeared, obviously by mistake, in the Netflix catalogue So today’s announcement comes as no surprise.
The creator of One Piece collaborates with Netflix
In a tweet, Netflix confirms the involvement of Eiichiro Oda, creator of the manga, in the project. “I know I announced that this film would be produced in 2017, but these things take time! Preparations are progressing slowly behind the scenes, and it seems that I can finally make the big announcement” explains Eiichiro Oda in a Press Release relayed by Netflix.

At last news, the One Piece series is produced in collaboration with Tomorrow Studio and Shueisha, the Japanese manga publisher. Steven Maeda (The X-Files, Lost) will be in charge of production. In the scenario, Matt Owens (Luke Cage, Agents of SHIELD) is featured.
