  • Gunpei Yokoi (occasionally spelled Gumpei Yokoi) was born in Kyoto, Japan, in 1941. A video game creator. He was a long-time Nintendo employee who was most known for creating the Game & Watch portable system, inventing the “cross” shaped Control Pad, designing the Game Boy from the ground up, and producing a few highly acclaimed video game series including Metroid and Kid Icarus. Yokoi earned an electronics degree from Doshisha University. In 1965, he was recruited by Nintendo to repair the assembly-line equipment that produced its Hanafuda cards. Yokoi won the International Game Developers Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously in 2003. He was named one of the “Top Ten Game Creators” by GameTrailers. In 2010, a Japanese art gallery held an exhibition titled “The Man Who Was Called the God of Games,” which included all of his major Nintendo works. As an homage to its original inventor, Yokoi, Bandai started producing a series of portable puzzle games called Gunpey in 1999.

Players control Kid Klown as he attempts to rescue Princess Honey from the villain Black Jack in this platform game developed by Kemco. The game’s graphics are presented in an isometric view as Kid Klown automatically moves down a path to thwart Black Jack’s plans of blowing up one of his spade bombs in each level.
