As training camp gets underway, there are 19 young players with San Francisco ties who are either currently injured or recovering from injuries sustained in offseason workouts. Among them: wide receiver Torrey Smith, who injured his hamstring during OTA practice in June.
The San Francisco 49ers changed a few things up in their defensive unit by releasing veteran defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin for the season and welcoming inside linebackers NaVorro Bowman and Aaron Lynch back from injury.. Read more about sf 49ers draft picks 2021 and let us know what you think.

“Wide receiver Jalen Hurd (knee), defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw (knee), running back Elijah Mitchell (abductor), and offensive lineman Trent Williams (knee), Shon Coleman (knee), and Aaron Banks (shoulder) are among the 49ers who have not practiced,” Inman tweeted.
Wideout is hanging on by a thread at Niners camp.
Jalen Hurd, a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, has a bright future ahead of him, according to the coaching staff.
With a fractured bone in his back, the wide receiver missed the whole rookie season. With a torn ACL, he missed the whole previous season. Hurd returned to practice at the middle of last week after missing much of the summer and training camp due to knee problems.
After openly speculating on whether the talented young athlete would make the final roster due to his frequent absence from team exercises, head coach Kyle Shanahan may have had anything to do with his comeback.
“I know he’s coming back from a severe injury, and we know the upside and how much we believe he can assist us, but he’s got to prove it,” Shanahan told reporters on Tuesday, Aug. 10.
“And there isn’t much time left. However, we want to play it carefully with him. Shanahan added, “I knew certain things were hurting him today, so we were clever with him.” “Hopefully, he can get into a rhythm where he can go out and play football and give himself a shot to make this team.”
When asked about Hurd’s health on Thursday, Aug. 19, the head coach was a bit more tolerant.
Shanahan told reporters, “As you guys know, he’s been in and out for the most of this, and he’s had some knee soreness.” “He has knee tendonitis, so rather than going one day and having to take three days off, we decided a few days ago to shut him down for the week and ensure he gets at least seven days off. I believe it was five days before that, so it will be a little more than ten days in total.”
As the season approaches, young Niners Kinlaw and Banks are also dealing with injuries.
Getty Trent Williams of the San Francisco 49ers is a left tackle.
Javon Kinlaw, a 23-year-old defensive lineman who started 12 of the Niners’ 14 games last season, sat out practice on Thursday with a shoulder issue.
Aaron Banks, a rookie right guard selected 48th overall in the second round of the 2021 NFL draft by the Niners, is battling with shoulder problems as well.
Banks suffered the injury during the Niners’ first preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs where he is slated to contend for a starting spot on the offensive line. He was anticipated to be out for two to three weeks, but he should be back in time for the season opener in Detroit on September 12.
Trent Williams, an eight-time Pro Bowl left tackle for the 49ers, will also be out for the remainder of the week after undergoing surgery to drain his damaged knee.
The San Francisco 49ers organization is experiencing a rash of injuries, and for the second straight year the list of injured young star players is long. The list of players hurt includes wide receiver Quinton Patton, tight end Vance McDonald, and defensive tackle Quinton Dial. With the recent signing of free agent guard Alex Boone, and the addition of linebacker Michael Wilhoite, the list of injured players will likely increase, as the healing process begins..
