New PS5 Controller – the DualSense

Sony Interactive Entertainment was the first to introduce the PlayStation 5 controller, DualSense, which is very similar to the PS4 controller, but with a few extra bells and whistles. Some of these attributes, such as tactile feedback, were already known, but with the unveiling of the entire controller, new functions were discovered.

The new PS5 controller represents a significant change compared to the previous DualShock models. This difference is also reflected in the name, which breaks with the previous structure of the name – DualSense – something completely new.

As you know, Sony hasn’t been in the controller revolution, but in the redesign, since switching from PS1 controller to PS2 controller. However, the switch from PS3 to PS4 was considerable. The main difference between the two controllers is that the touch screen is in the middle. As you can see, the PS5 controller makes similar changes that n’t change the way you play PlayStation, but modify and add a tap.

As with the previous DualShock controllers, Sony has confirmed that the PS5 DualSense controller continues to use rechargeable batteries. As we have seen, AA batteries are always used in the new Xbox Series X controllers.

Physically Sony has changed the angle of the trigger so that the controller looks smaller than it actually is. They also reduced the weight of the controller and adjusted the handles.

The light bar, which previously stood on top of the DualShock 4 controller, was moved to the touchscreen.

With DualSense, Sony has removed the Share button from DualShock 4. But they tell consumers not to worry too much, because this function doesn’t go away. The new Create button allows players to create content that they can then share online or simply enjoy.

Of course, the new DualSense also enables online communication with a headset. But for those who don’t, the PS5 controller has a new microphone function built into the centre of the controller.

Since the PS5 is of course backwards compatible with the PS4, Sony probably never had the intention to make major changes to the design of the DualShock. Why would you change something that works? There have been virtually no complaints about the PS4 controller. It can’t compete with high-end controllers like the Xbox One Pro Controller, but there’s nothing better on the market for its price.

In other words: Why risk and change something that the market doesn’t ask for? As you know, the PlayStation, although sometimes experimental, is not suited to the standard of Nintendo, which radically changes its controllers with each generation.

DualSense marks a radical departure from our previous controller proposals and shows how much we believe the PS5 will allow us to make the leap from generation to generation, said Jim Ryan, President and CEO of YOU. The new controller, along with the many innovative features of PS5 games, will change the way we play and continue our mission on PlayStation to push the boundaries of gaming, today and tomorrow.
