NBA Rumors: Lakers Can Land Collin Sexton And Kevin Love In A Blockbuster Trade

If you listen to any NBA news, you know the Lakers are entering a rebuild with LeBron James gone. In the 2018 offseason, they acquired Paul George and they are expected to trade D’Angelo Russell. They are also reportedly attempting to acquire Kevin Love from the Minnesota Timberwolves. Of course, the Lakers have options. They can trade for Russell, and they could also trade for Brandon Ingram and Julius Randle. As for Love, he can opt in to a $30.6 million contract for the 2019-20 season, but he isn’t expected to.

The Lakers are reportedly in talks to acquire Collin Sexton and Kevin Love in a blockbuster trade before next month’s deadline, according to a report from the Athletic’s Shams Charania. The Lakers could acquire both players in exchange for Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Julius Randle, and two first-round picks.

In the first round of the playoffs, the Los Angeles Lakers’ hopes for a title were dashed. The Phoenix Suns are in top form and have beaten LeBron James and the Lakers in 6 games. Even if Anthony Davis is healthy next season, the Lakers will need an improved team to become NBA champions again.

The best way for the Lakers to repeat their success is to acquire two All-Star level players to join LeBron and Anthony Davis. You can do that by striking a sweet deal with LeBron’s former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers. Rumors say the Cavaliers want to acquire Collin Sexton, and Kevin Love has probably been on the roster for at least 2 years. Acquiring both players in exchange for key role players would help the Lakers book their ticket to the NBA Finals next year. So both teams end up benefiting from this deal.

Commercial Package : Kyle Kuzma, Kentavius Caldwell-Pope, Talen Horton-Tucker (sign and trade), 2027 first-round pick on Collin Sexton, Kevin Love.

The Los Angeles Lakers have the most complete team in the NBA

The Lakers have two superstars, but the rest of the roster is in doubt. Point guard Dennis Schroder has been a great outside shooter in the postseason, as has Montrezl Harrell. Both players will likely leave Los Angeles this season, so the Lakers will need replacements in both areas. Schroder and Harrell were supposed to be the team’s next best players, but it was clear they didn’t belong in Los Angeles. In the playoffs, Schroder averaged 14.3 PPG with 40.0% shooting, while Harrell could only find 9.8 MPH in Frank Vogel’s rotation.

Kyle Kuzma is not on the Lakers’ radar, and they could risk sacrificing Caldwell-Pope and Talen Horton-Tucker to acquire budding All-Star Collin Sexton and 5-time All-Star Kevin Love. Sexton was immediately the best player in the deal, averaging 24.3 PPG during the season, and he could be an immediate offensive lineman to take the pressure off of James and Davis during the season. Kevin Love is nowhere near the player he once was, but he played with LeBron in Cleveland and can score better than anyone on the Lakers (37.0% career 3-point shots). With a strong team that features 4 All-Star players, the Lakers will be the best team in the West.

Cleveland moves from Love to Sextonin reconstruction plans.

The Cavaliers have been on the trade market all season, and this year they hope to acquire 22-year-old Collin Sexton. Sexton is a scoring defender, and it seems Cleveland would rather focus on Darius Garland, who may have a higher ceiling. Whatever the reason, Cleveland will have a hard time finding a trade option that gives them two young players and a first-round pick in exchange for the invaluable Kevin Love and offensive mastermind Sexton.

Kyle Kuzma became an average player a year ago with 18.7 PPG and can still play inside and out as a versatile forward. Horton-Tucker is so valuable that the Lakers, in danger of losing their hopes of a title this season, don’t want to trade him for former NBA champion Kyle Lowry. Sexton is more than a decade younger than Lowry and has a higher ceiling as an offensive talent, and he could persuade the Lakers to let Horton-Tucker go. Kentavius Caldwell-Pope is a sharpshooter who will improve Cleveland’s offense and be a two-way player alongside Garland.
