LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant have been named the three best NBA players over the last 20 years by executives and scouts from around the league.
The where is Kevin Durant from is a question that has been asked multiple times over the years. LeBron James has won 5 MVP awards since 2010, but Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant have both had impressive seasons this year.
The NBA season of 2021/22 may bring a number of changes to the league. We witnessed how things might go in an unexpected direction during the last playoffs, when certain favorites were ousted and the Milwaukee Bucks won the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
After a spectacular playoff run, this development altered the image around the league, positioning Giannis Antetokounmpo as one of the top dogs in the game. For example, the Greek Freak has been named the league’s top player for the next season.
Although he and Kevin Durant are deadlocked for fifth place (5 votes each), Giannis turned things around a few months ago with his amazing performances.
ESPN’s Tim Bontemps polled ten NBA executives and scouts to see what they think will happen in the league next season.
Here’s what a panel of ten NBA scouts and executives had to say about the events of the previous few weeks and what they imply for the next season in 2021-22.
Who is the top player in the NBA for the next season of 2021-22?
T1: Giannis Antetokounmpo, who received 5 votes.
Kevin Durant (T1): 5
According to Bontemps, Giannis’ miraculous championship run was spectacular, and these individuals ranked the 26-year-old with the Brooklyn Nets superstar at the top of their list.
After Antetokounmpo led the Bucks to an NBA championship and Durant led Team USA to a fourth straight gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics after an amazing performance against Milwaukee in the Eastern Conference playoffs, the two shared the vote for the league’s best player heading into next season.
The reason for Antetokounmpo’s support was obvious: the way he led Milwaukee through the playoffs and to its first championship in 50 years.
Furthermore, KD’s efforts shown that he has fully recovered from an ACL injury suffered during the 2019 NBA Finals Despite losing to Giannis in the second round of the playoffs, Durant proved that he is still the man.
Aside from Durant’s overall offensive domination, many of those who eventually chose the Brooklyn Nets superstar claimed the distinction came down to his not having the same sort of glaring weakness in his game as Antetokounmpo’s continuing free throw line struggle.
The third person named in these surveys was LeBron James but The King received no votes, falling behind the Eastern Conference players.
James was the only other name suggested by those surveyed, but he didn’t get any votes. At this time, it was obvious that the three stars were on a different level.
Every year, LeBron James is somehow ignored. Yes, he’s getting older, and his body won’t be the same as it once was, but this guy will always find a way to be relevant and help his team remain relevant.
Giannis and Durant have certainly earned their stripes, but this may fuel the Los Angeles Lakers superstar’s competitiveness. The same thing occurs every summer, and we’re not sure when James will stop proving his critics wrong.
