The one we like to call the incumbent operator has a particularly rich catalogue of mobile rate plans To help you find your way around and make the right choice, there is nothing like a selection according to usage.
Commitment 12 months
Orange Package 50 GB
Unlimited SMS/MMS messages
Orange Package 100 GB
Unlimited SMS/MMS messages
The editorial team has therefore studied all the Orange rate plans for you and offers you its choices. We will modify this article according to the evolution of the operator’s offer.
This package is the first in the Orange catalogue to offer preferential rates on smartphones sold by the brand. And it is currently less than 20€ per month, the first year.
Calls are unlimited in France and from the European zones, the DOM, Switzerland and Andorra to these zones and metropolitan France
Ditto for SMS and MMS, unlimited in France and from Europe, DOM and Switzerland and Andorra to these areas and Metropolitan France
The good news is that if you reach the end of the generous 50 GB offered on this mobile package there is no off-rate, but a reduced speed. You can use your package in metropolitan France and in European zones, in the French overseas departments Switzerland and Andorra.
The SIM card
You will be asked to pay a 10€ activation fee for the sim card (payment with order). On this package, Orange gives you the right to the multi-SIM option, which allows you to share your data envelope on a second SIM card Again, 10€ will be charged.
As always with Orange, dual calling and visual voicemail (with compatible mobiles, however, specifies Orange) are offered by default.
The rate of €19.99 (€29.99 with a subsidised smartphone) is applied for the first year. Then, this plan is billed at €34.99 per month without a mobile, or €44.99 with a smartphone subsidy. If you are an Orange box customer (Open pack), you get a 10€ discount.
Termination of the subscription contract shall take effect within ten days of receipt of the termination request by Orange. Please note that if you choose to acquire a mobile phone at the same time as subscribing to this package, the commitment increases from 12 to 24 months. And, as required by law, the customer hired 24 months wishing to terminate the contract, starting at the end of the twelfth month, will be liable to pay a quarter of the amount due for the second year.
This is a package that should probably not appeal to people who are used to dealing with digital customer service between chat and forum. However, for low data consumers who need a lot of support, this package has its raison d’être.
This package includes 2 hours of calls in France and from Europe, French overseas departments Switzerland and Andorra to France and these areas. As always, the unlimited is actually limited to 250 different correspondents per month. The limit of a maximum of 3 hours per call also applies to this package of… Two hours.
As for calls, SMS and MMS are unlimited in France and from the European zones, the DOM, Switzerland and Andorra to these zones and France. Here again, the limit of 250 monthly correspondents is appropriate.
The 5 GB package will cover the classic needs but will not allow intense activity on the internet via your smartphone. Streaming and downloading are not allowed if you don’t want your data to disappear in a few hours. In fact, it’s better to opt for the blocked version of this package, which will save you from costly off-packages. Refills will allow you to better control your consumption. For each MB consumed, 5 cents will be subtracted from your credit.
The SIM card
As usual, you will be asked to pay a 10€ fee for the activation of the SIM card (payment with order).
Orange gives you the possibility to choose three favourite fixed or mobile numbers that you can call unlimited when travelling in Europe. This option is charged 2€ per month. This package also has (by default) dual call and visual voicemail (with compatible mobiles, however Orange specifies).
Usual refrain on this package, as on the others (including those of competitors): this offer is reserved for customers residing in metropolitan France or who can justify a stable link with metropolitan France. Note that although it does not give you access to the choice of smartphones offered by Orange, you can nevertheless take advantage of the instalment payment system, with an initial contribution starting at 1 euro and monthly instalments ranging from 2 to 8€ (24 months maximum).
Termination of the subscription contract shall take effect within ten days following receipt of the termination request by Orange.
While Free mobile offers a 100 GB flat rate with no commitment for less than €20 per month, you have to pay between €35 and €100 per month…. 65€ for an equivalent package at Orange. Explanations.
This package offers an interesting international part. Because if calls are unlimited in France and from Europe, DOM and Switzerland/Andorra to these zones and metropolitan France, they are also unlimited from metropolitan France to landlines in more than 100 destinations and to landlines and mobiles in Europe, the USA and Canada.
SMS messages are unlimited to and from Europe. The MMS are unlimited in France and from the European zones, DOM and Switzerland/Andorra to these same zones and metropolitan France.
Out of the 100 GB available monthly on this package (and usable in mainland France), 70 GB are shared with a possible international use, in the Europe, DOM and Switzerland/Andorra zones. Once again, beware of off-rate calls abroad, as Orange applies a reduction in speed above 100 GB/month until the billing date.
The SIM card
You will be asked to pay a 10€ activation fee for the SIM card (payment with order). On this package, Orange gives you the right to the multi-SIM option, which allows you to share your data envelope on a second SIM card. Again, 10€ will be charged.
This package is eligible for the Orange Smartphone Top Loan programme: in the event of breakdown, breakage or theft of your mobile phone and provided there has been no payment incident over the last four months, Orange will lend you a top-of-the-range mobile phone for a maximum period of one month and up to two loans per year and per customer.
The rate of 34.99€ (49.99€ with a subsidized smartphone) is applied for the first year. Then, this plan is billed at €49.99 per month without a mobile, or €64.99 with a smartphone subsidy. If you are an Orange box customer (Open pack), you get a 10€ discount.
Termination of the subscription contract shall take effect within ten days following receipt of the termination request by Orange. Please note that if you choose to purchase a mobile phone at the same time as subscribing to this package, the commitment increases from 12 to 24 months. And, as required by law, the customer hired 24 months wishing to terminate the contract, starting at the end of the twelfth month, will be liable to pay a quarter of the amount due for the second year.
For six years now, Orange has been bringing together all the telecommunications activities of the former France Telecom. This brand, which originated in the UK, is now the largest operator in France, with no less than 21.7 million subscribers Sosh, its low-cost subsidiary set up to minimize the impact of Free Mobile’s entry into the market, alone claims nearly 2.4 million subscribers.
Exemplary Customer Service
Recognized for the quality of its customer service Orange has been achieving excellent results for several years on the various charts and other customer satisfaction barometers. With more than 1,000 shops throughout France, Orange has a lot to answer for. And if subscribers prefer the virtual to the physical, they can use the site’s FAQ platform and community forums. Email, chat and phone calls also allow you to reach advisors.
According to ARCEP studies, Orange provides the best 4G coverage, accessible to 97% of the population. The 4G+ is available on all packages without any commitment. Call and message coverage is also the best in the market, with 89% of the population under very good coverage. This figure rises to 99% if you include areas with good coverage.
In terms of bandwidth quality, the 4G Orange network is also ahead of its competitors, according to ARCEP. On public transport, Web browsing is of better quality than at SFR or Bouygues, whether you are on the metro, RER, Transilien, TGV or Intercités trains. In all contexts except on roads, Orange gets top marks in terms of Web browsing and video streaming.
On its portal, Orange presents its offers through two simple questions: are you or are you not an Orange subscriber for your box (the Orange Open Pack bundle offer offering a discount compared to a mobile package + an ADSL or fibre package), and do you wish to acquire a new mobile? Based on these two questions, the prices of the proposed packages differ. The 50 GB plan, which was €19.99 for the first year (then €24.99 in subsequent years), is now €19.99 (and €34.99) if you want to buy a new smartphone.
In any case, the offer is very varied: the data envelope is spread over a very wide spectrum, from 100 MB to more than 100 MB… 150 GB! Similarly, the most expensive packages offer interesting international coverage, which is obviously not the case with the cheapest packages.
To counter Free Mobile’s arrival on the market, Orange created Sosh, its low-cost subsidiary. In line with its competitor in mobile telephony, Sosh offers no-commitment packages, unlike the traditional Orange packages mentioned in this article.
