Matebook 14 and X Pro: Huawei Takes Laptops Seriously

Slowly but surely, Huawei is making a name for himself with laptops. At the MWC 2019 in Barcelona, the Chinese manufacturer is presenting two new models, the MateBook X Pro and the new MateBook 14. With them, Huawei is aiming for the top end and that’s not a bad idea.

The new edition of the MateBook X Pro comes exactly one year after the first model presented at MWC 2018. This device has a 13.9-inch screen in 3:2 format and is much better suited for productive work than a 16:9 screen. The definition is 3,000 x 2,000 pixels, the touch screen reaches a pixel density of 260 dpi, which is a lot for a laptop.

A high-powered MateBook X Pro

Huawei has used a latest Intel chip for its processor in this MateBook X Pro 2019, it is either a Core i5 8265U or a Core i7 8565U plugged into the device, both of which are eighth generation. The MateBook X Pro is equipped with a Nvidia GeForce MX250 graphics card to provide sufficient power. The keyboard contains the pop-up camera known from its predecessor, the resolution is the same as that of its predecessor, namely 1 megapixel.

Depending on the model, 512 GB or 1 TB are available for the internal memory. The RAM is 8 or 16 GB. With Huawei Share OneHop, users with a MateBook X Pro and a Mate 20 smartphone can exchange data between their smartphone and laptop in seconds via NFC and Bluetooth.

The Huawei MateBook X Pro has a headphone output, USB-A 3.0, USB-C 3.1 and a Thunderbolt port. The MateBook X Pro will be available from May or June and will cost 1,699 euros.

If you have a slightly tighter budget, the best thing to do is to buy the Huawei MateBook 14, it will be available for 1,000 euros and has a 14-inch screen that occupies 90%. The IPS uses a resolution of 2160 x 1440 pixels. The MateBook 14 is powered by an eighth-generation Intel Core i5 or i7 processor, and a Nvidia GeForce MX250 card will of course take care of the graphics. The internal memory is 512 GB, the RAM is 8 or 16 GB. The Huawei MateBook 14 has two USB-A ports (one USB 2.0, one USB 3.0), one USB-C 3.1 for charging and data transfer, on the multimedia side we find an HDMI and a jack socket. Huawei placed a fingerprint sensor in the power button.

The third new model is the MateBook 13, which is already available for sale. It’s basically the slightly smaller version of the MateBook 14, but it bypasses the pop-up camera. The price starts at 999 euros, at the beginning you could get it with a Huawei Mate 20 Lite which costs around 350 euros. It’s not impossible that we’ll soon find similar offers, especially with the MateBook X Pro and MateBook 14.
