Leaked Images of Sony ‘Xperia Compact’ Show it Could be a Potential Competitor to iPhone 12 Mini

5.4 inches, the iPhone 12 mini is one of the most compact devices in the high-end smartphone range. While some reports indicate that the model is experiencing a decline in sales, market research suggests that the iPhone 12 mini is well received by consumers. It seems that most people who have bought the device and used it for a long time have positive comments about it.

There are several reasons why the iPhone 12 mini is selling slower than the regular models that have been released recently, such as the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max In recent years the ways and reasons people use their smartphones have changed dramatically. While some people prefer to carry a compact phone when they are on the go, many others don’t mind carrying a somewhat cumbersome phone as long as they can do a few things on it like watch movies, make video calls, etc.

Market forces have also developed at a rapid pace. Recently, Apple has begun advertising in countries like China, where traditionally larger phones are more successful. In countries like this, you wouldn’t expect a device like the iPhone 12 mini to explode.

The format of the iPhone 12 mini recalls one of the times when the first versions of smartphones were launched. The first iPhone on sale had a 3.5-inch screen. Devices with a screen size of 4 to 5 inches are called phablets – slightly larger than a phone, but smaller than a tablet. At that time, however, people mainly used the telephone to make calls and send messages. Today, the need for multimedia events has forced a large number of people to invest in phones with a large screen.

Despite the popularity of larger phones, a device like the iPhone 12 mini has found an echo among a group of consumers who prefer lightweight phones that are comfortable to hold and easy to carry. Since the launch of this particular model, there have been whispers in the market whether an Android phone of this size will compete with this Apple device in the near future. There has been no news of a competing company launching a mini or compact phone for months.

So far.

On Sunday, the company SteverHemmerstoffer (@Onleaks) released leak images of Sony’s upcoming Xperia Compact phone. If you can ignore the photos, it’s a relatively smaller 5.5-inch phone than its predecessor, the Xperia XZ1, which came out in 2017.

Measuring 140 x 68.9 x 8.9 mm, the phone is slightly larger than the iPhone 12 mini. At any launch, it will be one of the smallest smartphones available and should be a strong contender for the iPhone 12 mini.

In the past, phones like the Pixel 5 have been compared to the iPhone 12, but at the time, most of these phones were relatively larger than Apple’s device. Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S20, a seemingly compact phone, but measured it appears to be an inch larger than the iPhone 12 mini.

The 5.5-inch Xperia Compact should have a flat screen with a thick bezel and chin rest. The phone also places a standalone 8 megapixel camera in its cutout. At the back, there is a dual lens setup with a 13-megapixel main camera.

The Power Button has a built-in fingerprint sensor that calls out Touch ID from the latest iPad Air launch. There is a 3.5mm mini jack on the device for those who like to use wired headphones.

Apart from the above information, not much is known about the Sony compact phone, which is not yet in the market. But the fact that Sony decided to release a phone with a small form factor shortly after the launch of the iPhone 12 mini clearly shows that the Japanese multinational intends to compete with Apple in this area.
