On Saturday night, a 78-year-old man was arrested in northern Calcutta for strangling his physically handicapped 45-year-old son while refusing to wear a face mask while walking.

According to the police, the incident took place after an argument between Bashidhar Malik and his son Sirshendu Malik. After killing his son, Bashidhar went to the local police station and surrendered. Later, the police arrested the suspect and charged him with murder.

The senior Calcutta police officer said that the accused reported Bashidhar to Shampukur police station around 7pm and stated that he had killed his son Sirshenda around 5.30pm. The son was physically handicapped. The suspect strangled the victim with a cloth.

The police rushed to the crime scene and found the body.

Bansheedhar is a private company that retired while her son was unemployed. None of them were friends, the police said.

In the last days father and son would fight every time Sirshendu left the house without a mask. Yesterday there was an argument for the same reason and a man killed his son in a fit of rage, the officer said.

On the 12th. On 1 March, the Bengali government made the wearing of masks compulsory for all citizens, especially in public places.
