Game of Thrones Season 7 Sets a Sad Record!

It will still be a long time before we can discover the continuation and end of Game of Thrones. Season 7 has just ended and it’s time to take stock. And the HBO series is the one of all records! And above all the hacking record

1 billion illegal views

If the last season of Game of Thrones ended in front of more than 12 million viewers it still records a sad record: that ofpiracy. Indeed, while it is complicated to know exactly how many times the program has been pirated, the MUSO service that protects rights holders against this kind of inconvenience has just published figures that make one dizzy.

According to the site, the HBO series would have been pirated more than a billion times just for this year ! Reported per episode, this represents 140 million illegal viewings each week. What’s the reason for these numbers? The escape of two episodes that aroused the curiosity of the most impatient fans!

Streaming instead of torrent

Note in passing that the majority of pirate viewings were done through streaming platforms at over 85%. Torrent represents only 9.1% and direct download 5.6%. For the co-founder of the site, Andy Chatterley, we have here the proof that it is the end of the torrent and that the spectators prefer streaming :

In addition to the extent of piracy with regard to popular shows, these figures show that illegal streaming is a much more important type of piracy than torrent downloading.

Let’s not worry too much about HBO, despite this record piracy, the channel still breaks even with 32 million cumulative views per episode on the various legal channels ! Now we just have to wait until 2019 to see if the final season will beat this record!
