[POLE EMPLOI ACTUALISATION] You can update your information on the Pôle Emploi website until 15 January 2020. Monthly updating is necessary to receive unemployment benefits.

[Updated on Monday, January 13, 2020 at 4:15 p.m.]The countdown is on. Jobseekers have only two days left to update their monthly job applications on the Pôle Emploi website. The deadline for updating, a compulsory procedure for checking that people who are unemployed still meet the criteria for receiving unemployment benefits, is Wednesday 15 January 2020, 23.59 hrs. Technically, the job seeker can update his or her skills online, via the secure account available to him or her (it is then necessary to have his or her login and password), but also by telephone, at 3949, or via the terminals accessible at the Pole Emploi agency. Note that it may be necessary to provide information on the number of hours worked and proof of income. The sooner the discounting is done, the sooner the allowances are paid out. As a reminder, a delay in updating may result in a write-off of Pole Emploi and the loss of allowances.

People who have lost their jobs as a result of resignation, dismissal, breach of contract or an unvalidated probationary period are required to register with Pôle emploi. The same applies to those entering the labour market and looking for work.

Jobseekers are entitled to unemployment benefits. But in order to reach them, it is necessary to update their situation every month, including the first month of their registration at Pole Emploi. This obligation is underlined by article L5411.2 of the Labour Code : Jobseekers periodically renew their registration in accordance with the procedures laid down by order of the minister responsible for employment and the category in which they have been registered.

What is the Pôle Emploi update?

When updating, you must report the events related to your situation over the month. This may include a return to work (fixed-term contract, temporary assignment or any other type of employment contract. In this case, you will have to indicate the number of hours worked and the gross salary received). Work can be part-time or full-time. You will also have to provide your proof of income (payslip, etc.). If you receive other income, your unemployment benefit will have to be recalculated. Other elements affecting your situation must also be reported:

  • A training course
  • Maternity leave
  • A work stoppage
  • Marriage or divorce
  • Retirement
  • A modification of personal details (telephone, address…)
  • Or an absence from home for more than a week.

At the end of the process, if you are still looking for a job and still meet the required criteria, Pôle Emploi will confirm that you are still on the list of job seekers You will then have 24 hours to amend your return.

When to update on Pôle Emploi?

The discounting period begins at the end of the month concerned and payment is made from the beginning of the following month. The average length of time between declaration and payment is 4 days. Important point, Pôle emploi processes files on a first-come, first-served basis. In other words, the sooner you declare your situation, the sooner you will receive the benefits.

What is the deadline for updating Pôle Emploi

For job seekers, it is very important to respect the deadlines for updating (indicated above) for two reasons :

  • Updating allows you to show Pôle Emploi that you are still looking for a job.
  • Monthly updating is an essential act to obtain unemployment benefits.

Words from the Eco: unemployment

How do I point to the Pole Emploi site?

The monthly update is mainly done on the Internet from home via the Pôle emploi website or on your mobile phone with the Pôle Emploi application. The application makes it easy to send your receipts. To access the online update form, it is necessary to identify yourself via your personal account, which is confidential and secure. To access it, you have to give:

  • An identifier: this is your job seeker number which is written on all mail sent by Pôle Emploi.
  • One password: It takes the form of a 6-digit code. Each job seeker receives it when he or she registers with Pôle emploi.

Afterwards, simply fill out a form which is the same as the one to be filled out via 3949 or at the Pôle Emploi centres. Updating can also be done directly in a Pôle Emploi centre. The Pôle Emploi centres have a terminal called the Unidialog terminal that allows you to update your data. Counsellors can help you through the process. Computer equipment is also available to scan your receipts.

When do you become unemployed?

The update enables the payment of your unemployment benefits. The amount of the latter may be recalculated based on the information you have provided. For example, if you’ve been paid wages. Once you have updated, you are paid at the beginning of the following month. For example, if you still qualify for unemployment benefit in September, you will be paid from 1 October. Forgot to update Pôle Emploi

Monthly updating is an essential act for receiving unemployment benefits. If you forget to complete the process, you will no longer be on the list of job seekers. Your allowances will therefore no longer be paid. If you have forgotten to update your details, you must register with Pôle emploi once again (in an agency, on the Internet or by calling 3949).

To update yourself, you can also use the telephone by calling 3949 (not surcharged). You will also need your login. This number can also be used to find out about your situation.

Update Pôle Emploi: the case of the auto-entrepreneur

A self-employed person may be entitled to unemployment benefits if :

  • He has already worked and as such is entitled to unemployment benefits.
  • If he is registered as a job seeker with Pôle emploi.

If he meets these two conditions, he may receive unemployment benefits (within the limits of his rights) in two forms:

  • The accumulation of unemployment benefits and his activity as a self-employed person: each month the self-employed person is updated. It affects his rights from which the administration subtracts what the professional activity has brought. Be careful, the sums cannot exceed the former salary of the beneficiary. When discounting, the gross sales and the number of hours worked must be indicated. At the end of the update, don’t forget to indicate that he is still looking for a job. Be careful, the self-entrepreneur must take an additional step to receive unemployment benefits. To do so, he must send his Pôle Emploi agency a copy of his monthly turnover declaration to URSSAF. Sending can be done via a legible photo of the document.
  • The system of aid for taking over or creating a business (Arce): under this system, Pôle Emploi pays out capital that can be used to create the business. The amount of the Arce corresponds to 45% of the remaining rights. The sum is paid in two instalments. Once when registering with Pôle Emploi, once 6 months later. In order to receive the remaining 55% of the rights, the self entrepreneur must update himself every month (as in the case presented above).

These two devices cannot be combined. However, they do entitle you to the Accre, a three-year exemption from social security contributions.

Update Pôle Emploi: the case of the intermittent worker

Unemployment benefits for casual workers are calculated on the basis of the number of hours worked during specified periods, according to the reference salary. If the intermittent worker has not carried out any professional activity during this specific period of time, the number of days eligible for compensation is none other than the number of days in the calendar month, i.e. between 28 and 31 depending on the month. The activities taken into account can be :

  • Employed or not (self-employed, freelance, company…)
  • Retained at the time of entitlement or taken back after
  • Carried on in France or in the EEA.

Please note that it is imperative to mention all activities when updating Pôle Emploi. It is possible to combine income from copyright and related rights as well as income from artists’ grants with unemployment benefits. This income does not have to be declared. Incidental salary income paid by the collecting and distribution societies (RDAs) must be included in the monthly update.

Update Pole Employment and hours worked

When you update, if you declare an activity, you must send your pay slips on which you must write your name and ID number. You must also indicate the gross amounts received and the number of hours worked. For sending, you can send a legible photo of the documents or scan them. You can also go to your local Pôle emploi agency. This allows the administration to calculate the amount of the allowances to which you are entitled.
