The New York Giants have a long and legendary history. From the biggest game ever played to the four Super Bowls, there have been many great players who have played for Big Blue.
Let’s try to reduce all the greats to five of the greatest Giants players of all time.
5. Phil Simms
Phil Simms enjoyed an excellent 15 year career with the Giants, culminating in an MVP performance in the Super Bowl XXI. In this match, he threw for 268 yards and three touchdowns.
Although Simms was injured in round 15. Although he did not participate in the first round playoffs, he also played an important role in the 1990 team that won the Super Bowl XXV. In total, Simms would have lost 33,462 yards and 199 touchdowns in his career.
During his career he took part in the trophy twice, once in 1985 and once in 1993.
4. Eli Manning
The man who paved the way for the Giants, Eli Manning, had a stormy and turbulent career, but will be most remembered for his two Super Bowl victories over the Tom Brady Bill Belichick dynasty with the New england patriots
In 2008, Manning led the Wild Card team through the gloves of Tampa Bay Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers for the first time, and they all hit the road before facing the undefeated patriots in the Super Bowl
In this match he threw for 255 yards and two touchdowns on his way to the MVP. On one of the biggest passes of the game, Manning made several tackling attempts and threw a high pass to David Tyree, who tied the ball to his helmet to keep control of one of the most memorable moments in the history of the Super Bowl Four years later, he will again compete against the equally formidable team of Patriots at the XLVI Super Bowl in another MVP event.
In total, Manning would have participated in four Pro Bowls and would have ended his career with 57,023 yards and 366 touchdowns. While some have criticized his performance throughout his career, Eli’s clutch gene is undeniable.
3. Frank Gifford
Let’s go back to the time of the greatest game ever played. Frank Gifford was a man for the Giants at the time and during his 12-year career he played almost anywhere Big Blue needed him.
Gifford had 3,609 yards and 34 touchdowns in his career, intercepting 367 passes for 5,434 yards. After his last retirement, Gifford held the Giants’ record for 39 years, until Amani Toomer overshadowed it in 2003.
Gifford has been mentioned eight times in the cup, seven times in consecutive years. He won the MVP title in 1956 and joined the NFL team in the 1950s.
In 1977, he was also included in the Hall of Fame of Professional Football.
2. Michael Strachan
Michael Strachan, who is responsible for the season’s bags (controversial as it may be), has been at the heart of the defence for 15 years and was the main reason for winning the 2008 XLII Super Bowl
As season leader in the pocket league, Strachan has been in the pocket league twice and was named defensive player of the year in 2001. Strachan ended his career at the top and retired after winning the Super Bowl in 2004.
Strachan has won the world cup seven times and was eventually included in the Football Hall of Fame in 2014.
1. Lawrence Taylor
The first name most people think of when they think of the Giants is Lawrence Taylor, who is simply called LT by many people. His career started with a bang when he won the Rookie and Player of the Year prize in 1981.
As with Strahan, LT was the catalyst for the protection that led the Giants to their two Super Bowls in the 1980s and early 1990s. Taylor will end his NFL career with 10 Pro Bowls.
In 1986, when he was willing to bring the Giants to the Super Bowl Taylor was appointed MVP and MVP of the Year, only the second time he was appointed MVP in defense. The only one who did is Alan Page in 1971. This has never happened since.
In 1999 she was included in the Professional Football Hall of Fame.
