Do Not Update Firefox

Good evening, sir,

In Firefox, you can theoretically set the search for
day updates using Tools, Options, Advanced, Update Tab.

But in fact, even if you set it so that capitals are not automatically
, they still happen.

Is there another more subtle setting in about:config that
would really block automatic updates?

There is a radical way: install firefox as administrator and
use it as a single user, it will not be able to update itself, this
should always be the case.

The automatic update is now an element of FF since
for some time. It is presented as a security measure. Therefore,
FF should no longer have its own mechanism to prevent
from being updated.

So it seems that the only way is to use Windows itself
and the administration mode as presented in another message.

chown -R root.root /the_folder

And then not mandatory but, to avoid unreadable files :

find /folder -type f -exec chmod 644 {} ;
find /folder -type d -exec chmod 755 {} ;

On Windows 7, disable the new Mozilla Maintenance
Service with msconfig.exe, Services tab, taking care to check the
box in the Hide all Microsoft services.

This method works for Windows XP and Windows Vista

Always on Windows 7, and probably other Windows, the service is
installed in a specific folder :

C:Program FilesMozilla Maintenance Service

Just delete the Mozilla Maintenance Service folder and you won’t be bothered anymore.
Chances are that a future update will make this
folder disappear to include the engine directly in the application.

I thought it was already integrated, hence my message.

That said, there are several solutions in the forums.

This article seems interesting to me because it summarizes the corrections of
version 12 and says that this version updates
in a transparent way. It indicates that there is a button to disable the automatic
update, as if it were different. So, that makes
look like it will always be possible to disable…
http://www.techspot.com/news/48329-firefox-12-released-with-long-awaited-automatic-updates.html

There are also several reasons to disable the update,
as well as slow Internet connections. Some say that the
rate of correction is too high. I usually use Seamonkey and haven’t
noticed that.
