Disney+ Reaches 116 Million Subscribers Just a Year and a Half after Its Launch

Disney has announced that it has reached 116 million total subscribers in just under a year and a half since the launch of its new streaming service, Disney+, in November of last year. The service kicked off with a limited trial period for new users, and has offered a hybrid of both Hulu and Netflix in an effort to gain subscribers worldwide.

Disney+ has reached 116 million total subscribers, less than a year and a half after the streaming service officially launched. The milestone was reached in less than two weeks following the service’s launch on November 12, 2018. In the first month following Disney’s streaming service launch, the company reported that 11.6 million new subscribers joined the platform, for a total of 26.6 million subscribers at the end of November 2018.

Disney+ has been around for a little less than a year and a half, and it has started reaching over 116 million subscribers worldwide, which is more than that of Netflix. To get an idea of how huge the Disney+ service is for the entertainment giant, it is bigger than the combined subscriber count of Netflix and Hulu combined, which were at 115 million and 112 million, respectively. If Disney+ will continue to bring in more subscribers, it can become a huge competitor to Netflix, just like the two are rivals for original content.. It’s becoming more and more of an understatement to say that Disney+ is a success.

Disney’s subscription service has reached a whopping 116 million members, according to the media conglomerate’s statistics for the fiscal third quarter. That’s more than double the number of members Disney+ bragged about a year ago, when it “only” had about 57.7 subscribers.

The objective is particularly noteworthy given the fact that Disney+ debuted on November 12, 2019. With just a year and a half under its belt, Disney’s streaming service is still in its infancy.

Analysts are similarly taken aback by Disney+’s success, since the streaming service’s most recent milestone surpassed their expectations by roughly one million additional members. (To be precise, they were anticipating 115.2 million.)

Recent programs that have exploited some of Disney+’s greatest brands are expected to be a large part of the service’s success. This includes Marvel Studios’ small-screen spin-offs like Loki and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, as well as Star Wars’ The Mandalorian, which will return for a new season next year.

As part of its Premier Access program, Disney+ members have also had the opportunity of watching Mulan, Black Widow, and other chosen films without having to go to the cinema on opening day. Due to a separate distribution agreement, Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will not be included.

ESPN+, despite its modest size, contributed to the overall streaming trend by increasing its subscriber base by 75% year over year to 14.9 million. Hulu’s total customers grew by 21% to 42.8 million, including on-demand and live TV services.
