Opponents Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor clashed in the UFC 257 press conference on January 21, 2021 at Etihad Arena on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

New Zealand’s Dan Hooker and featherweight second seed Dustin Poirier put on one of the UFC 2020’s best fights in five rounds in July. It was a to-and-fro, as the two men managed to win the 25-minute fight.

Hooker came out strong, winning the first two rounds. Diamond, on the other hand, managed to gain momentum in the third period.

In the end, Poirier summed up the win over Hangman in a unanimous decision (48-47, 48-46). With this victory, Poirier maintained his position at the top of the lightweight division and now faces MMA superstar Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 257.

Speaking to Heavy, Hooker said he knew there was a good chance that if he beat Poirier, he could be one of those who would welcome McGregor back to the 155-pound division.

I knew that in the fight, the hangman said, I knew that in the fight, in the third, that’s why I did it. So I bit my mouthpiece and tried to knock him out. Because I knew what was at stake. If that happened, I would be sitting where [Poirier] is sitting, in the main room. I was sure of it.

I took a risk, and I knew after the second round it wouldn’t be like I thought. But it all depends on how you feel about the sport. It’s a sport we play, a high risk, high reward sport. So if you’re not willing to take the risk, if you’re not willing to take the risk, then you’re not going to get these great opportunities.

Joker, the No. 6 light heavyweight player, will take on former Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler on Saturday in the main event of UFC 257.

Hooker’s Comments on a possible case of Nurmagomedov v. McGregor 2

If he beats Chandler at UFC 257 on Saturday, Hangman will be on his way to gold. And if McGregor manages to overtake Poirier a second time, it could come down to a title fight. Much depends on UFC Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and his decision to fight again or leave the belt and retire.

If Nurmagomedov decides to fight again, the UFC will likely push for a fight with McGregor when he faces Poirier on the 23rd. January minted.

Hooker is a big fan of MMA and, to put him out of the game, he thinks McGregor should fight a representative artist to show off his improved ground game since he knocked out Nurmagomedov at UFC 229. Nurmagomedov and McGregor fought in October 2018, and it was the CFU’s best-selling PPV of all time. Nurmagomedov won in the fourth round

Although Poirier has a solid foundation, he is best known for his boxing. When asked if Nurmagomedov would like to face McGregor 2 as a fan, Hangman replied:

As a fan of the sport, I would love to see a fighter show that he has improved his part of the game that earned him a victory over such a fighter. If I was introduced, I would go and fight the man who introduced me. And then I want to show the fans or the promotion that I’ve worked on this aspect of my game or that I’ve improved this aspect of my game and that I could win in a return game.

A few months ago UFC superstar Nate Diaz shared a video on Twitter of Hooker stunning Gilbert Burns in 2018. Burns is currently the second welterweight and will fight champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 258 in February.

Diaz also said Hooker was the number one welterweight. Hangman confirmed that he is very interested in fighting Diaz, for whom he has a lot of respect. But if the fight doesn’t happen, he’ll enjoy a third time watching Diaz fight McGregor.

I want to see the trilogy, Hooker said. I feel like we need a trilogy. The McGregor/Nate trilogy, they’re one after the other, will you stop there? I feel like it should end. That is not the purpose of the PDU at this time. I don’t know why. As a fan, I’d like to see that.

Diaz and McGregor are 1-1, with Diaz winning the first fight in the second round and McGregor winning the second by majority decision.
