Cowboys wager on touchdowns scored versus takeaways created as defense continues to power Dallas

Despite the Cowboys losing four out of their last five games, they continue to be on top in terms of betting odds because Dallas has made a habit for creating takeaways. Experts say that this is just one example as defenses across the league have been dominating recently.

The Dallas Cowboys have been able to score touchdowns at a high rate, but their defense has been the driving force for their success. The Cowboys are currently in first place with three games left in the regular season. Read more in detail here: dallas cowboys breaking news today 2021 .

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — The difference between how the Dallas Cowboys were expected to win games in 2021 and how they are now winning games is astounding.

So much so that quarterback Dak Prescott and defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence have made a wager for the remainder of the season between the offense and defense. It’s a battle of touchdowns vs. turnovers.

The Cowboys’ defense is 4-2 after a 21-6 victory against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

To a score run by Ezekiel Elliott and a Prescott touchdown toss to Dalton Schultz, the Cowboys had four turnovers — three interceptions and a fumble recovery.

“They certainly won this one,” Prescott said, “but we’ll make sure it carries over.” “They’re doing an excellent job of obtaining the ball. It’s exciting to see the front seven attacking and the back end getting their hands on balls. It’s a dream come true to be a part of it.”

Jerry Jones, the team’s owner and general manager, was unaware of the bet, and Prescott refused to reveal the stakes.

Jones said, “I adore that.” “I’ve seen some of the most productive development in teams when they’ve been wagering. Deion [Sanders] and Michael [Irvin], as well as the defense and offense, used to wager $50,000 on who would win a 2-minute drill. We had to put a stop to it… [but] that’s why they could claim the 2-minute drill was harder than the game.”

The Cowboys’ success was considered to be predicated on a high-powered, highly skilled offense going into the season, but a defense that surrendered a franchise-record 473 points last season has converted into one of the best in the league.

Trevon Diggs, who had his league-leading 10th pass intercepted on Sunday, does not want the qualifying.

“We have the finest defense, without a doubt,” Diggs remarked.

Despite the fact that rookie wonder Micah Parsons did not make a single solo tackle, the defense was able to dominate the New York Jets He recorded a half-tackle and a pass deflection in the official gamebook, halting his six-game sack run.

“This is how we established our brand,” Parsons said. “We take pleasure in playing hard-nosed football and outhitting the opposition. It’s a better game when we keep them out and make sure they don’t score. Today, I think we did a fantastic job.”

They have 31 takeaways on the season, the most by a Dallas defense since 2014. They have 23 interceptions as a unit, which is the most they’ve had since 1999.

Only once in the Cowboys’ last six games have they allowed more than 20 points. The Cowboys have at least four takeaways in each of their 3-0 starts to December, all on the road, which is their longest string since 1994.

Jones can’t recall a Cowboys defense playing as well as this one in the last ten years, and it’s a unit that’s just getting Lawrence back on the field after a broken foot, Randy Gregory back after missing four games with a calf strain, and Neville Gallimore playing in only his second game since suffering an elbow injury over the summer. Trysten Hill and Osa Odighizuwa, both defensive tackles, did not play against the Giants after being placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Saturday.

“My entire point about all of this is if we can just remain healthy and keep getting our players back from rehab,” Jones said, “then we’ll be able to grasp that offense, the intricacies of that scheme.”

Jones didn’t complete his idea, but he is optimistic that the offense can regain its flow. Tony Pollard, who returned after a one-game absence due to a foot injury, and Elliott combined for 125 yards on 30 attempts. The passing game was efficient but not spectacular, and the offense only scored twice in the red zone on five visits.

Prescott, on the other hand, is undecided about the wager.

“This is still going on; we’ll get caught up,” Prescott added. “Well, let’s hope not. I’m hoping we n’t Catch up because I want them to keep rolling them like that.”
