11 nominations for Joker, Todd Phillips’ film event – breaking the record set in 2009 by Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, for the number of nominations for a film adapted from superhero comics. 10 nominations for Martin Scorsese’s Netflix film, The Irishman. 10 more for Once Upon A Time … In Hollywood, Quentin Tarantino’s ninth feature film And 9 nominations for the 2020 Golden Globes winner for Best Dramatic Film of the Year, 1917 by Sam Mendes. Such are this year’s heavyweights in competition on February 10, at the 92nd annual Awards Ceremony organized by the American Film Academy.

All of the nominations were announced today, live on YouTube, through actors John Cho (Searching – Missing Scope, Selfie) and Issa Rae (Insecure, Little). Unlike the Golden Globes last week, the SVoD platform Netflix, is likely to win a few trophies given the number of films in play: The Irishman, Marriage Story or The Two Popes. Bong-Joon Ho’s latest feature film Parasite, won the Palme d’Or at Cannes in May 2019. Finally, on the French side, Les Misérables, Ladj Ly’s first film, and the animated film J’ai Perdu Mon Corps will represent French cinema in the “Best Foreign Film” and “Best Animated Film” categories. “For film lovers and the curious, the ceremony will be broadcast live on Canal + during the night of Sunday 9 to Monday 10 February. It will be followed, only a few days later, by the 45th Césars ceremony in France.
