The first week of college football is always a big one, with some teams playing their first game and others beginning the season for the third time in four years. With that in mind, we’re here to help you win your bets on all the games this weekend.

The best college football bets week 2 is a list of the best bets for Week 1 of the college football season.

Welcome to college football’s first full weekend, when we’ll get to watch several of the major contenders in action. Week 1 also features a number of notable nonconference games, such as No. 1 Alabama vs. Miami and No. 5 Georgia vs. No. 3 Clemson.

With so many games to choose from, there’s a lot to consider when selecting wins against the spread and which coaches are most likely to hit their over/unders. Let’s take a trip across the nation to get you ready for the big game.


Friday

North Carolina Tar Heels vs. Virginia Tech Hokies (-5.5, 64), 6 p.m. ET on ESPN

  • In the last 25 seasons, AP top-10 teams favored by single digits in road season openers have gone 3-10 against the spread, including five consecutive ATS defeats.

  • Over the last 20 seasons, North Carolina has gone 1-7 in season openers away from home. The Tar Heels’ lone victory over that time period came against South Carolina as a 12-point underdog in 2019.

  • Virginia Tech is 0-9 all-time versus AP top-10 opponents in season openers, most recently falling 42-24 to No. 1 Ohio State in 2015. The Hokies are 1-5 ATS in their six games with spreads in our database.

  • When Justin Fuente plays a ranked opponent, the under is 15-6-1. (11-5-1 with Virginia Tech).

  • After two seasons as the offensive coordinator at Ole Miss, Phil Longo is in his third season as North Carolina’s offensive coordinator (2017-18). When Longo’s club is a favorite, the over is 19-9 in the last four seasons (10-7 with North Carolina, 9-2 with Ole Miss).
