It’s been almost a year since the first Chivalry. And while the world was shocked to see the first game’s success, a lot of us assumed that more of the same wasn’t going to be enough. Fortunately, Chivalry II was more than enough. The new game takes everything from the first game, improves on it, and throws in several interesting new features. From new characters to new ways to play, this is one sequel that will make you want to go back and play the first game again.
The trailer for Chivalry II, the sequel to the 2014 hit Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, takes place during the medieval period. The trailer is packed with medieval references, such as knights in armor and swords, and medieval-era weaponry. The trailer also features a lot of swearing, jabs at women, and a lot of drinking.
REVIEW – After a very good episode in 2012, which itself was borrowed from a Half-Life 2 mod called Age of Chivalry, 9 years later we have a sequel:. Chivalry 2. The principle is the same, FPS (first-person slasher) in a fictional medieval setting where two sides clash : Agatha’s kingdom and the masonic order.
The first difference from Chivalry I is the ability to switch between first and third person. Of course, this feature is completely optional and does not give you any advantage over your opponent. However, it is a nice addition for those who are allergic to the FPS look. Most of the combat and visceral side of the experience is clearly designed for first-person play, as opposed to z. For example, in For Honor.
Qualitative medieval romance
You will understand this once you have gone through the tutorial, which is not mandatory, but is a fundamental part of the game. Let me be honest: Even a Chivalry veteran with hundreds of hours under their belt can still learn a thing or two. We can only recommend that you do this from start to finish, otherwise you may be in for a surprise when you go online. Let’s not forget that Chivalry 2 is a full multiplayer game, and if you can only play against bots, interest is quickly diminished. Of course, the most important part of the experience is the competition with others, whether it’s in an epic duel or a man-to-man fight where whoever strikes first wins. For now, and unlike its predecessor, the game features a mixed objective system with either 40 or 64 players on the servers. On the 8 maps you can alternate between the classic Team Deathmatch and Target Grabbing, by far the most interesting mode. Mason’s or Agatha’s team starts at point A, then must complete various tasks to get to point B, and so on to their final destination. With the possible exception of one card, everything is very balanced and both teams have a chance to win. It all depends on the skill of the players and how they play.
Mordhau or not Mordhau?
The main difference between this game and its rival Mordhau is the combat system, which is closer to the arcade than Chivalry and therefore slightly more accessible. Chivalry 2 does not have a multidirectional system, but rather a vertical, horizontal and knife attack system. After that, it’s all about footwork and the ability to parry and counter in time. It’s a style, some prefer one or the other. What is certain is that unlike Mordhau, which still offers an ultra-classic environment, Chivalry has put a lot of effort into improving the maps and overall atmosphere. It’s hard to say if one inspired the other, but apparently in Chivalry II you can now throw your weapons and equipment as well as your shield at the enemy. The game mechanics that are particularly attractive in Mordhau. You can also obtain weapons directly on the battlefield, allowing you to completely change your play style without having to respawn. It’s pretty funny when you throw an axe into your opponent’s back as he runs away after a lost duel. One of the main advantages of this Chivalry 2 over its predecessor is the interaction with the environment. At the top of the wall, for example, you can take a large stone or barrel to bash in the skull of an infantryman trying to get through the main gate. And as always in the Chivalry universe, it’s done… with humor. You can also traverse the vegetable garden and catch cabbages to send them to your opponent and even… Horse manure! Yeah, you can kill a man by throwing shit in his face. All this, a certain Thomas P would appreciate, but shhh…..
Very nice developments
Unlike Chivalry I, the second installment offers a wide range of customization options, from face to voice to gear. This is a great idea, although we’re looking at some categories, such as. B. in helmets, I would have liked a few more options. Other items are unlocked as you upgrade your class with the gold coins you earn in online battles. Also note the extra currency that is only available with real money, but this is essentially a cosmetic fix, so it’s not a problem. Another difference from a series, the game is now divided into 4 classes and each class is divided into 3 sub-classes. This is good for character development and the feeling of gradually mastering the class, but bad for customization and weapon choice. For example, it is now impossible to use certain weapons, such as. B. the muzzle, to be used for a knight. That’s too bad. The four classes are: Knight, archer, squire and vanguard.
Outstanding features, but also outstanding drawbacks
Besides the neat level design and the many details on the armors and weapons, we must admit that the game is very pleasing to the eye, especially on the highest configuration (we tested on a PC). We were able to test the PS5 version, which is also very attractive. In addition, the graphics are accompanied by a rather insane ambient sound: The clanking of weapons against armor, the piercing screams during combat – everything is designed for total aural immersion. Despite this, the game still suffers from a number of problems. Despite the excellent configuration, some crashes related to Unreal Engine (Unreal Engine crash due to the loss of the D3D device). In a group of 5, this happened with one player in particular crashing every 5 minutes with an error message….. This is not good. Another big problem is the inability to play (at the time of writing this review) with a friend. In fact, the game’s social system is completely broken, forcing you to restart the game 5 or 6 times before you get the chance to invite a friend to your party. This is a real problem that should be fixed with a patch soon, but it’s already unacceptable, especially for a multiplayer game like this. -Zardoz-

Chivalry II – Knights sharper than ever? 2021-06-19 Zardoz Chivalry 2 is an entertaining experience that pays homage to its predecessor without being an unnecessary repetition. The fun is omnipresent, and the more you progress, the more you feel like you’ve mastered your character and your weapons. It’s a shame that some bugs are coming to spoil the party, such as glitches and a social system that is in need of an overhaul. We recommend waiting for the first patch before getting into the game. On the other hand, it’s hard not to recommend this gem when the bugs are out.
