China Limits Online Gaming for Minors to One Hour a Day on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Public Holidays

China has recently passed a law limiting children under the age of 16 to one hour of online gaming per day on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. The country hopes to limit the time spent on gaming to help prevent addiction and improve academic performance.

China has recently limited the amount of time minors can play online games. They have also placed a limit on the number of hours per day they can play during certain days of the week. Read more in detail here: most popular game right now.

Younger Chinese gamers should make the most of their online gaming time, since they will be doing far less of it in the future.

China has agreed to impose new regulations that severely limit the amount of online gaming that Tencent Holdings Ltd. and other platforms may offer Chinese adolescents each week, according to the country’s local media watchdog, the National Press and Publication Administration (NAAP).

Minors (those under the age of 18) will now be allowed to play online games only between the hours of 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Fridays, weekends, and public holidays.

That is already excessive in and of itself, but on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, Chinese youngsters will only be allowed to play for one hour each day. This amounts to just three hours of weekly internet gaming.

China’s decision is the result of a drive to limit the growth of big internet firms and the addictive nature of online gaming among the country’s young.

The following are some of the most important aspects of the new rules:

  • All online games should be connected to a state-run anti-addiction system, and businesses should not be allowed to offer services to users without real-name registrations.
  • Regulators will increase their scrutiny of how gaming companies implement limits on items like play time and in-game purchases.
  • To fight adolescent gaming addiction, regulators will collaborate with parents, schools, and other elements of society.

Analysts have noted that China’s move effectively prohibits gaming platforms from profiting from minors, while some believe that the new regulations are much too harsh.

“This is the most stringent decision to date, effectively wiping out most small expenditure, which was already very low,” said Daniel Ahmad, an analyst at Niko Partners.

“Three hours a week is insufficient,” Steven Leung, executive director of UOB Kay Hian (Hong Kong) Ltd, noted. “I expected regulatory measures to slow down over time, but they aren’t slowing down at all. It will undoubtedly harm the fledgling IT recovery.”

Children make for just a small portion of Tencent’s and other firms’ operations, particularly following recent limitations, according to the companies. Minors account for less than 3% of the country’s total gaming revenues, according to the country’s biggest games business.
