Cheryl revealed that she broke down in tears when she spoke to Sarah Harding on the phone as she battled breast cancer.
Sarah, 39, was diagnosed with advanced cancer in August and the cancer had spread to different parts of her body.
In an excerpt from Sarah’s upcoming autobiography Hear Me Out, published by the Times, former Girls Aloud member Cheryl, 37, recalls losing her mind and bursting into tears when she heard the terrible news of Sarah’s battle with the disease via FaceTime.
Cheryl said: I usually try to control my emotions, but the other day during a FaceTime conversation with her, I couldn’t control them.
She told me the terrible news and I lost my temper and started to cry. I tried to slide my phone away so she couldn’t see my face.
She added: The craziest part is that it ended with Sarah calming me down.
Cheryl praised Sarah, calling her fierce and independent, but noted that she and the rest of her bandmates – Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh – would see their friend differently than she sees herself.
She continued: That’s probably what I like most about Sarah, she doesn’t have a bone in her body that isn’t right. Sarah’s fall was always due to her lack of self-confidence.

I think that’s what makes her such a confusing character. The way the other girls saw Sarah was not the way she saw herself. It was like two totally different worlds.
Cheryl also highlighted her unique voice and said that she always gives an incredible performance at Girls Aloud concerts.
In her book, Sarah reveals that doctors told her that next Christmas would probably be her last, and that she fell into a coma after suffering from blood poisoning as a result of premedication.

The Celebrity Big Brother winner has kept her diagnosis and treatment a secret, but in August she let her fans know on social media that she was battling cancer.
She shared a selfie with her hospital bed and wrote: I was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year, and a few weeks ago I received the devastating news that the cancer had spread to other parts of my body.
I now have weekly chemotherapy sessions and am fighting as best I can.

I understand that this can be shocking to read on social media, and that’s really not my intention. But last week there was talk on the internet that I had been seen in the hospital, so I think it’s time to let people know what’s going on, and this is the best way I could think of.
My wonderful mum, family and close friends are helping me through this and I want to thank the amazing NHS doctors and nurses who were and are heroes.
Sarah said she made her diagnosis public to encourage others not to delay testing because of the Covid 19 pandemic.
