Samsung Galaxy A20e

In the Notebookcheck test, colleagues rate this model as a Good Deal. The Samsung Galaxy A20e would offer a surprisingly good package for its price. In addition to an adequate chipset with no less than eight processor cores, this low-cost smartphone offers a dual main camera, long-range Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC for mobile payments. You can find it everywhere and even discounters like Lidl offer it from time to time.

Motorola Moto G7 Play

The G7 Play is the most affordable member of the G7 Moto family. Unlike the Galaxy A20e, it is not equipped with the NFC chip for mobile payments. The manufacturer promises to deliver security-critical Android updates within a maximum of 90 days just like Samsung. Notebookcheck review: Its performance – powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 632 chipset, a mid-range product – has proven to be very strong for this price range.

Nokia 3.2

The Nokia 3.2 wants to attract consumers with its large screen and battery. However, the performance is significantly below that of the G7 Play. This cheap smartphone still uses the old micro-USB port, Bluetooth 4.2 (instead of 5.0) and the fingerprint sensor is missing. However, there is NFC and you can use two SIM cards and a MicroSD card at the same time.

Huawei P smart (2019)

In our test for the Huawei P smart (2019), we gave the following opinion: The Huawei P Smart 2019 offers very good value for money, but also has a few flaws: the photo quality leaves a lot to be desired and the sound is also poor. If you’re an Instagram addict and want to share lots of photos with family and friends, this is not the smartphone for you.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8

In Notebookcheck’s test for the Redmi Note 8, it is said that the display quality of the cheap mid-range smartphone sets new standards in the price range. Such a high resolution can only be found on the Huawei P smart (2019) (above). Another special feature is the triple main camera with a maximum of 48 megapixels. Thanks to the Snapdragon 665 mid-range chipset, large memory capacity and fast LTE and WLAN standards, this device is as fast as the much more expensive high-end models. Unfortunately, there is no NFC for contactless payment.

REALME 5

Realme provides you with a real quality product: the largest battery, the largest screen and a good camera in a cheap smartphone. The 64 GB version of Realme 5 is sometimes available for less than 150 euros. As this device looks a lot like the Redmi Note 8 presented earlier in this article, a comparison video can help you see the differences.

Smartphone with contract

Under certain circumstances, smartphones obtained after taking out a contract may actually be cheaper than a cheap smartphone purchased unlocked. That assumes, of course, that…

  • …you can terminate your contract now…
  • you would transfer your phone number to the new contract (optional)
  • with the smartphone of your choice + the contract of your choice bought at the same time, you don’t have to pay more than if you bought the smartphone and the contract separately

Most smartphones that you buy with a contract are equipped with the same software as smartphones without a contract. You don’t have to worry about the branding of suppliers, at least as far as major brands are concerned. At best, individual applications are downloaded if the smartphone recognizes the SIM card from a particular provider. Security updates are also provided by most vendors as quickly as with neutral smartphones.

Used smartphone

If it’s not necessarily a new smartphone, the choice will be much wider and also better in terms of quality. Because in the offers from Amazon’s warehouse or by looking for refurbished devices on eBay, you can find high-end smartphones from the last few years for less than 150 euros (such as the Huawei Mate 10 Pro). Some of them are of better quality than the models presented in this article. However, different rules apply here with regard to guarantees. Many of these devices have traces of use, but these must be mentioned in the description of the item.
