It’s an all English Champions League final – but who will be crowned European champions on Saturday? Manchester City or Chelsea?

Premier League champion City are looking to win the prestigious competition for the first time.

Chelsea, the 2012 European champions, have beaten Pep Guardiola’s side twice in the league and FA Cup in the 2020-21 season.

Up to 16,500 people will be allowed access to the Dragao stadium in Porto to watch the match.

Both teams have a full squad, although City midfielder Ilkay Gündogan appeared to suffer a slight injury at training on Friday after colliding with Fernandinho.

If you win, you’re a hero; if you lose, you’re almost a loser

Champions League final will be good publicity for football – Pep Guardiola

I know exactly how we want to play, who we are going to play with and I am not going to disturb them too much, Guardiola said.

It’s an incredible experience to be here. I know exactly what I’m going to tell them. To people who are worried and nervous, I tell them it’s normal.

I’m sure we’ll have to suffer to win the final. It’s good to say you’re having fun, but sometimes it’s impossible. You have to be resilient and able to adapt.

City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne said: If you win, you’re a hero. If you lose, you’re almost a loser. It’s an incredible team effort to reach this level, but not winning is something you don’t want to experience.

That was one of the goals of the club and the players. It is a great honor that tomorrow [Saturday] I get the chance to be there on the highest stage in the world.

City’s Spanish coach Guardiola wants to win the Champions League for the third time, following Barcelona’s triumphs in 2009 and 2011.

Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel is aiming for his first win in the Champions League The German led Paris Saint Germain to the final last season, in which they lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich

I’m confident that everyone wants him, Tuchel said. It’s all about hunger, and at the highest level of the sport, it’s always about how badly you want it. I thought we were very focused and disciplined in our preparation this week.

It’s always hard to play against City, Bayern or Barcelona when Pep is in the reserves. He is the source of tremendous faith and success and has an amazing winner’s mentality.

They’re probably the strongest team in Europe at the moment, in the world, and they’ve created a huge gap with us in the league, but we closed that gap in 90 minutes at Wembley and we closed it again at Manchester City

The final will be played on the day of the match in 30 minutes extra time and, if necessary, in a penalty shootout.

Each team may use five substitutions, and if the final goes to overtime, a sixth substitution may be used.

Tuchel said: The penalty shoot-out [in the Europa League final] was fantastic in terms of the quality of execution. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it – 20 consecutive penalty kicks without a miss and executed so well.

We’ve identified the guys to take penalties for us, but I don’t know who will be on the pitch, so we have to be aware of that, but when it comes to penalties, we go in together and we go out together.

A video assistant referee system (VAR) will be used. City are the home team, which means they will be playing in their traditional sky blue and white colours.

This year’s final will be broadcast in over 200 countries. The opening ceremony will take place about 10 minutes before the biggest club football match in Europe.

Where is it happening?

The final was to be held at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey, but was moved to the Portuguese city of Porto earlier this month due to restrictions related to the coronavirus.

Portugal is on England’s green list for travel, meaning players and fans can travel to the country without having to quarantine on their return. Turkey is on the red list.

This is the second year in a row that the final will be held in Portugal: Last season’s postponed final was played in Lisbon.

The Champions League final will be moved to Porto for fans to enjoy.

The Estadio do Dragao hosted the 2019 Nations League final and was built for Euro 2004.

City have already played the Champions League in this stadium this season: Pep Guardiola’s side drew 0-0 against Porto in the group stage in December.

Chelsea also played Porto on their way to the final, but both quarter-finals in April were played in Spain, at the Ramon Sanchez Pizhuan Stadium in Seville, as travel restrictions were in place at the time due to the coronavirus between Portugal and the UK – the country was suspended on 17 December. May to the green list.

How many fans will attend the final?

The 2020 final between Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain was played behind closed doors in Lisbon.

This year, however, up to 16,500 fans will attend the match, about a third of the capacity of the Estadio do Dragao, with Manchester City and Chelsea getting about 6,000 tickets each.

Chelsea have returned more than 800 unsold tickets.

The 2,800 tickets sold to independents were in high demand. However, the unsold tickets were part of a charter package that included subsidised flights of £200.

A further 1,700 tickets made available by the Uefa were sold on Tuesday.

Chelsea beat 13-time European champion Real Madrid on their way to the final.

Radio 5 Live will broadcast the entire final from 8pm BST with commentator John Murray and former Chelsea and Blackburn striker Chris Sutton at the stadium.

Previous English championship finals

This is the third all-English final – and the second in three seasons – in the Champions League

In 2008, Chelsea lost 6-5 on penalties to Manchester United in Moscow after the match had ended 1-1 after 120 minutes.

Eleven years later, Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-0 in the final before a packed house in Madrid.

If City beat Chelsea FC, it would become the sixth English club to become European champions, after Liverpool, Manchester United Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Aston Villa.

City became the ninth English club to reach the final after Liverpool, Manchester United Nottingham Forest, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Leeds United, Arsenal and Tottenham.

The last English team to win its first final was Aston Villa in 1982 against Bayern Munich

Will Aguero play?

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, who has scored 260 goals in 389 appearances for the club, wants to leave this summer when his contract expires.

Aguero scored two goals in his final appearance at the Etihad Stadium as the brand-new Premier League champions ended their domestic season on Sunday with an emphatic victory over Everton.

If he plays in the final, it will be the Argentine’s farewell appearance for the club after 10 years.

Aguero scored 13 goals for City against Chelsea, although he has not scored in any of his last four games against Chelsea since his hat-trick in February 2019.

According to City manager Guardiola, he is close to a switch to Barcelona next season.

Both managers have a full staff at their disposal.

Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy have recovered from injury and will be able to play, while City midfielder Ilkay Gündogan is out after suffering an injury in the game against Brighton on 18. May is also ready to be used again.
