Lukaku returned to Chelsea this summer for a club-record price of £97.5 million from Inter Milan, and he made an immediate impact on his second appearance.

Following Lukaku’s opening, Reece James added a second as Chelsea made it two wins in a row to start the Premier League.

“Dominant, I would say,” Lukaku said when questioned about his performance by Sky Sports. Every time I play, I strive to improve; I still have a long way to go, but it felt wonderful to win tonight. The Premier Competition is a highly tough league, so we need to win and keep progressing.

“At the end of the day, you want to put in a lot of effort for the team, score goals, and create opportunities.” I’ve worked on it, and this group is very skilled. They are European champions, and they want to continue to improve, just as I want to keep winning. We must continue to struggle and put up performances like these.

“You saw a lot, not just from myself, but also from the rest of the squad, who adapted very well and made my life very comfortable, so I was not anxious going into the game. I had just one goal in mind: to win the game, and I am ecstatic for the team and its supporters.”

Arsenal’s poor start to the season continues, with Mikel Arteta’s team losing 2-0 in back-to-back games.

Following good COVID-19 findings, both sides were missing important players, with Arsenal’s £50 million defender Ben White unavailable and Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic also ruled out.

Arsenal had a strong start, but it was Chelsea who took the lead after 15 minutes when Lukaku outmuscled Pablo Mari to touch in a cross from James.

After making his Chelsea debut nine years ago, it was the striker’s first goal for the club.

Chelsea took control of the game after that, scoring a second goal after 35 minutes as James finished a beautiful play by lashing the ball into the top corner.

Arsenal had a penalty request rejected down shortly before the interval when Bukayo Saka collided with James, while Kai Havertz headed narrowly wide from a Mason Mount cross.

Saka’s deflected attempt was superbly pushed over the bar by goalkeeper Edouard Mendy for the hosts’ first serious opportunity of the second half.

After a Mari flick-on, Arsenal had an even better opportunity just before the hour mark, with Rob Holding heading narrowly wide from close range.

Lukaku came close to scoring Chelsea’s third goal with 12 minutes left, but Bernd Leno superbly stopped his close-range header onto the bar.

Chelsea cruised to win, piling the pressure on London rivals Arsenal. Leno also denied Kai Havertz late on.

Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel expressed his delight with Lukaku’s rapid integration into the squad.

“He brings something to our game that we didn’t have much of before, such as ball protection and playing extremely straight in front and to the last line,” Tuchel said to Sky Sports.

“A goal is the best way to get started. He came close to scoring a second goal, but Bernd Leno made a great save, and he assisted on a few half-opportunities and chances. It’s a fantastic start, but we must continue to develop.”

Arsenal has always been a top of the table club and has always been the top dog in English football. The Gunners have a great record this year and are currently sitting in 1st position in the English Premier League. They are just 2 points ahead of Chelsea who are sitting in 3rd position. This is the 20th time in the last 25 years that these two have faced each other in the EPL and have met at least 3 times.  The last time the Gunners beat the Blues was back in April when they won the league for the first time since Wenger arrived at Arsenal..
