The iPhone 11 Pro Max is the successor of the iPhone XS Max which was the iPhone of all records in 2018. The biggest. The best-equipped. The toughest. And especially the most expensive one. The iPhone 11 Pro Max is therefore the largest of the three 2019 models. Like the iPhone 11 Pro, it’s one of the first two iPhones to feature a triple photo sensor and carry the suffix “Pro,” a reference to MacBook Pro and iPad Pro that further underscores the phone’s flagship status.
6.5-inch Super Retina XDR Display
On the front, the design of the iPhone 11 Pro Max is identical to that of the iPhone XS Max. It takes over the screen and the famous notch inherited from the iPhone X. The slab is of the “Super Retina XDR” type. It is based on OLED technology. It measures 6.5 inches and displays images in Super Retina HD definition: 1242 x 2688 pixels. The resolution, standard at Apple, reaches 458 pixels per inch.
The panel is HDR and Dolby Vision compatible. Its colorimetry is more extensive than the majority of smartphones. Its refresh rate is 120 Hz. Its luminosity reaches 800 nits. Oleophobic mineral glass (signed Corning) protects the screen. Unlike all of Apple’s premium models (excluding the iPhone XR) from iPhone 6S, the iPhone 11 Pro Max is one of the first two flagship models not to be 3D Touch compatible.
The iPhone 11 Pro Max is made of the same materials as the iPhone XS Max: mineral glass on the sides and stainless steel on the edges. The chassis is always waterproof and IP68 certified. The main physical change is the appearance of a square, protruding main photo block instead of the dual sensor on the iPhone XS. It integrates three photo sensors, the quad LED flash and the secondary microphone.
Apple A13 Fusion Chipset
The A12 Bionic of the iPhone XS Max is replaced by its successor: the A13 Bionic. This chipset is etched in 7 nm FinFET+. Its exact composition is not official. It integrates several application cores (the A12 Bionic has six), an Apple graphics processor, a neural coprocessor and, for the first time, a coprocessor to manage environmental sensors.
The amount of RAM built into the iPhone 11 Pro Max is not official, but the majority of benchmarks claim that the iPhone 11 Pro Max has 4GB of RAM, which is as much as the iPhone XS Max. The iPhone 11 Pro Max comes in three tiers of non-expandable storage identical to its predecessor. The first one is 64 GB. The second is 256 GB. And the last one is 512 GB. The iPhone 11 Pro does not come with 128GB of storage like the iPhone 11.
Triple photo sensor 12+12+12 megapixels
On the photo side, the iPhone 11 Pro Max has a triple photo sensor. It is one of the first two iPhone, with the iPhone 11 Pro, with this number of sensors on the back. As with the iPhone 11 Pro, they are three 12-megapixel sensors arranged behind different lenses. Two of the sensors are taken from the iPhone XS and XS Max, including the main module equipped with a stabilized f/1.8 aperture lens and phase-detecting autofocus. The pixel size is 1.4 micron.
The second 12-megapixel sensor is, as in the iPhone XS, associated with a stabilized telephoto lens offering a zoom ratio of 2. The autofocus is phase-detecting. But here the optics open at f/2.0 instead of f/2.4. The third 12-megapixel sensor has the same optics as the second sensor on the iPhone 11, a wide-angle model that opens at f/2.4. The set is supported by a quad LED flash already present in the 2018 models.
The iPhone 11 Pro Max’s Triple Sensor is based on the portrait modes of the iPhone XS Max. The smartphone shoots in 2160p at up to 60 frames per second. Slow motion mode rises to 240 frames per second in 1080p. In video, it records sound in stereo. The iPhone 11 Pro Max is, like its little brothers, compatible with audio zoom, which highlights the sound emitted by a subject when the user zooms in on it.
At the front, the Face ID front camera evolves for the first time. The 7-megapixel sensor on the iPhone X, XS, and XS Max is replaced by a 12-megapixel sensor, always in combination with an f/2.2 lens. The front camera is supported, among other things, by a time-of-flight camera for facial recognition. It is HDR compatible. It shoots up to 4K at 60 frames per second and is electronically stabilized (with the help of the gyroscope).
3190 mAh battery with quick charge
The battery capacity of the iPhone 11 Pro is not officially revealed, but Apple claims that the smartphone’s battery life is up to 20 hours in multimedia, 5 hours longer than the iPhone XS Max. The test tools say it is a 3969 mAh model. This is an increase of almost 800 mAh compared to the iPhone XS Max.
The iPhone 11 Pro Max is fast charge compatible and accepts chargers up to 18 watts (previously 15 watts). It is compatible with wireless charging (Qi standard) and reverse charging (as well as wireless reverse charging for recharging accessories such as AirPods).
The iPhone 11 comes with iOS 13. The rest of the equipment of the iPhone 11 Pro Max is very similar to that of the iPhone XS Max, with a few evolutions. It includes a LTE (Category 19) modem, dual band WiFi ax and Bluetooth 5.0, a GPS sensor (Galileo, QZSS and Glonass), a nano-SIM slot (the iPhone 11 Pro is dual SIM thanks to an e-SIM), an NFC sensor (Apple Pay compatible), two stereo speakers, a hi-fi audio chipset (Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital Plus compatible) and a proprietary Lightning port.
As in previous years, the iPhone 11 Pro Max does not have a 3.5mm jack port (and there is no longer a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter). The mobile is 8.1 mm thick. He weighs 226 grams.
iPhone 11 Pro with 64, 256 or 512 GB storage
The iPhone 11 Pro Max is available in four colors: sidereal gray, silver, night green (new 2019 color), and gold. The iPhone 11 Pro Max (64GB) is available for €1259 at launch. The 256GB version is available at 1429 euros, and the 512GB version at 1659 euros.
