AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D Beats 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12900KS by 16% in Shadow of the Tomb Raider

This is one of the first tests conducted to compare AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D and Intel’s i9-12900KS in a gaming benchmark using Shadow of the Tomb Raider The results show that AMD performs better than Intel, especially at lower resolutions.

AMD released the Ryzen 7 5800x3d on October 19th, 2018. This processor is a beast and outperforms its counterpart by 16%.

AMD’s first Ryzen processor with 3D V-Cache technology seems to be a substantial advance for gamers—or, at the very least, fans of Eidos Montréal’s current Tomb Raider game. The first gaming benchmarks for the Ryzen 7 5800X3D were released today by Peru-based hardware site XanxoGaming, and they show that the CPU outperforms Intel’s latest Alder Lake-S flagship, the Core i9-12900KS, by as much as 16 percent in Shadow of the Tomb Raider and by as much as 21 percent in the standard Core i9-12900K/KF. The tests were carried out on PCs with various GPU and RAM combinations, with the game running in DirectX 12 mode at 720p. XanxoGaming has provided a link to a CapFrameX blog post explaining why he picked that resolution for the testing.

(Custom Settings – Low) Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Processor AVG FPS Baseline
5800X3D AMD Ryzen 7 231 121.58%
Intel Core i9-12900KS processor 200~ 105.26%
Intel Core i9-12900K/KF (Intel Core i9-12900K/KF) 190~ 100%

FIRST result IN GAMING of the 5800X3D AMD Ryzen 7 (XanxoGaming)

According to the statistics provided by CapFrameX from the same scenario (we took the time to thoroughly study the settings as well as the test scene), the A MD Ryzen 7 5800X3D would perform 14-15 percent better than a 12900KS and 20-21 percent better than an Intel Core i9-12900K.

Although the comparison isn’t exact, the Intel machine has an RTX 3090 Ti and DDR5-4800C40 with the identical test settings as ours.

First opinion — In IPC 3D V-CACHE does not enhance single core performance, but HIGHER CACHE compensates in game.

It has taken us a few hours to reproduce reliable results using this scene in 720p. It’s a first look at what will be shown in our final review of the 5800X3D AMD Ryzen 7 processor. We’ll do our typical benchmarks at 1080p Ultra, but we’re considering adding 720p results and how the AMD processor with the Intel Core i9-12900KF (the only one we have in hand) fares.

The 5800X3D AMD Ryzen 7 does not bring almost any improvement in productivity to its “predecessor” but could perhaps be a last gift to gamers to give the AM4 platform a final stamp. Would it be too much to ask for a Ryzen 5 5600X3D?

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is better AMD Ryzen 7 or Intel i9?

A: I would recommend Ryzen 7 over Intel i9 because of the price.

Is AMD Ryzen 7 better than i7 10th Gen?

A: For gaming, AMD is a little better than Intel. You wont see much of an improvement in games for the cost difference between them though and you will most likely be paying more to run both processors.

Is Ryzen 9 better than i9 for gaming?

A: Ryzen 9 is generally better for gaming than i9 because of its lower power draw.i9 has a higher TDP, and when compared to other processors in the same price range such as AMDs Threadripper chips or Intels Core i5-8600K, itll cost more to produce with almost identical performance that may not be worth the extra cash.
