Amazon Prime Video Opens Up to the World, With No Surcharge for Premium Customers in France

Amazon Prime Video is available in France and in more than 200 countries around the world at no extra cost for some Premium customers. An offline mode is part of the mobile applications.

After months of waiting, Amazon Prime Video is now officially available in more than 200 countries around the world, including France. Premium subscribers (49 euros per year) can take advantage of this at no extra cost from now on. You can play on the Netflix flowerbeds and the OCS channel package recently available on OTT.

Offline mode, up to three screens simultaneously

Amazon warns that its site and applications are still in English for the time being (unlike the French service’s introductory page), but that dubbing or subtitles are available in French ” pour de nombreux programmes “, including its original series, but no further details are available at this time.

Amazon’s featured films includeJurassic Park and the sagas Indiana Jones and Fast and Furious. ” All programs are available as downloads,” says the American giant, whether on iOS, Android (with the ability to move videos to the SD card if necessary) or Fire tablets. Applications for LG’s and Samsung’s ” the main ” Smart TVs are also included.

Subscribers can enjoy content on up to three screens simultaneously. They have the X-Ray feature that allows you to identify actors and songs while watching a program (Google Play Films also offers this feature).

Chromecast does not seem to be supported according to our findings, unlike AirPlay to Apple TV. An incompatibility that is not new and which is also giving rise to a battle between Amazon and Google: the first one having decided to remove Chromecast from its catalog. As a reminder, Fire TV is still not available in France. As always, feel free to send us your feedback via comments.

Service included for Amazon Premium customers in France

Amazon Prime Video is now available at no extra cost to Premium Members in the following countries: France, Belgium, Spain, Canada, India and Italy. For the others, an additional 2.99 euros or dollars per month will be charged, depending on the country, an introductory price valid for six months only and then increasing to 5.99 euros or dollars per month.

In any case, in order to take advantage of the SVOD Prime Video service, it is mandatory to have a Premium subscription (or to subscribe to it if it is not the case). The offer is not (yet?) available independently, unlike in the United States where it can be subscribed for $8.99 per month.

Now we’ll have to see if Amazon will keep its €49 fee for its Premium subscription. As a reminder, across the Atlantic it is more expensive ($99 per year) following increases over the years, notably because the number of services offered had increased.

Finally, please note that if you share your subscription with members of your household, they will not be able to enjoy Amazon Prime Video (as was already the case with the lending library for Kindle).
