The Vikings will not lose four straight games this season, at least not at home against the Rams.
With the NFL season nearly upon us, it’s time to turn our attention to the games and the players that will define the season. Every year, there is a game that defines a season, and it’s always one that we never predicted. Will it be a game that snaps a team’s eight-game losing streak, or will it be the one that propels a team into the playoffs? It’s going to be a week, and we’re here to make some predictions.
Let’s be real for a second: the NFL preseason is largely meaningless. The only thing that matters is the starting lineups for Week 1 of the real NFL season, and that’s a debate for another day. But, there’s always a few things to pay attention to when the preseason starts, and this week’s game between the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams is one of them.. The Las Vegas Raiders aim to continue their quest for a postseason spot this year with a good performance against the Los Angeles Rams in preseason Week 2 after a dominating 20-7 victory over the Seattle Seahawks to begin the preseason.
During the game against the Seahawks, the Raiders decided to play mostly backups, while franchise players Derek Carr, Josh Jacobs, and Darren Waller did not see any action. Quarterback Nathan Peterman completed 29 of 39 passes for 246 yards and an interception, but he also threw an interception and did not throw a touchdown pass.
Trey Ragas and B.J. Emmons, who combined for over 100 yards on nearly five yards per carry while also hitting pay soil on the ground, and wide receiver Zay Jones, who led the team with 57 receiving yards on three receptions, were standout performers.
The Raiders should play more starters in Week 2 against the high-powered Rams, which should be a lot more interesting game. Here are four big predictions for what will happen on Sunday.

4. Bryan Edwards throws down the gauntlet
Bryan Edwards, a big-bodied receiver, had a quiet 2020, but his sheer physical potential offers him a tremendous chance to burst out this year. He’s just the kind of player that provides quarterbacks a huge grab radius and helps them feel at ease.
He’s had a great preseason, with coaches, players, and the media comparing him to Terrell Owens, Davante Adams, and Randy Moss. If he plays against the Rams on Sunday, he should be able to demolish second-string Rams defensive backs.
Tre’von Moehrig is a force to be reckoned with.
Moehrig, like Edwards, has made a lot of noise throughout training camp. He’s been dubbed the “silent assassin” by colleagues for his calm but commanding presence on the football field, something he demonstrated this week during a joint practice with the Rams when he intercepted a Matthew Stafford pass.
Despite his age, he’s expected to be the Raiders’ starting free safety in Week 1, which means he’ll have to make the most of every rep until then. Expect him to make a difference versus L.A.
2. L.A.’s passing assault is overwhelmed by the D-line.
The Raiders’ defensive line has been erratic in recent years, but with Yannick Ngakoue’s acquisition and Maxx Crosby’s return from injury, they’ll have a group that is both good and deep in 2021. Clelin Ferrell, Carl Nassib, and third-round rookie Malcolm Koonce round out their pass-rushing depth chart.
The Rams’ offensive line isn’t bad, but they aren’t nearly ready to contend with backup pass rushers like Nassib, who might very well be starters on other teams. L.A. will struggle to move the ball through the air with their increased depth, same to how the Seahawks battled last week.
1. Marcus Mariota is the best quarterback in the league.
This week, Mariota should get some game action, and these preseason games are crucial for his NFL future. Despite the fact that, barring injury, he will never steal Derek Carr’s starting position, he must demonstrate to other clubs that he is a competent starter worth dealing for.
In the Raiders’ 27-30 defeat to the Chargers in 2020, he showed flashes of brilliance, and a game with the Rams’ formidable defense offers him another chance to shine. Mariota will have a terrific game on Sunday as one of the greatest dual-threat quarterbacks in the league.
