3 last-minute predictions for Cowboys in 2021 NFL Draft

The Dallas Cowboys have always been the center of the football world. The same goes for the 2021 NFL Draft, which begins Thursday night.

From Team America to much criticism from other fan bases, the Cowboys are always in the media spotlight. Dallas had a disappointing 2020 season, finishing third in the NFC East with a 6-10 record. It didn’t help that star quarterback Dak Prescott is out in Week 5 of the season with a broken ankle.

While Dak’s injury didn’t help the Cowboys, the defense has been terrible all season. They need to improve their defense if they want to compete for a playoff spot next year.

Dallas ranked 23rd in defensive efficiency last season, and that won’t cut it if they want to be a competitive team. Even with all the exciting players they have offensively, they can’t win every game on penalties. Fortunately for the Cowboys, this recruiting class is very talented and should be able to bolster their defense.

3. Cowboys take offensive tackle on second or third day

Dallas may need a defense, but they need to provide Dak Prescott with a defense. Brady Christensen, Walker Little or Liam Eichenberg would be good targets for Dallas on offense. Their offensive line struggled last season and was ranked 27th by PFF. If the Cowboys’ offensive line is healthy, it’s good, but they desperately need depth at the position. They have to make the decision to hire someone to replace the injured and eventually become a starter for the team.

2. Cowboys take safety in second round

It’s no secret that the Cowboys have a terrible second team, ranked 29th in the league by PFF, and they need to do something about it. Dallas doesn’t need to look beyond the highly skilled safeties in this draft class when selecting a second round pick.

The best safety in the draft class, Trevon Moehrig, is probably gone for now, but there are plenty of other good options. Elijah Molden, Jamar Johnson, Richie Grant and Javon Holland will be good options for Dallas. They all play at different positions, but whatever the Cowboys choose, it will have an immediate impact on the defense.

1. Cowboys take cornerback in first round

Dallas fills its biggest position in the first round. The Cowboys are in 10th place. The choice in the draft, and the way the board falls, all angles should be available. The pick is two players, Patrick Surtain II of Alabama and Jaycee Horn of South Carolina.

You can’t go wrong with any of these corners, but if the Cowboys want the best horn coverage press, this is the way to go. Although he can often be punished, he allowed just 8 catches on 24 targets last season. Surtain II is the safest option, as his play should easily fit into the NFL. Surtain II was the highest rated cornerback last season, according to PFF, and his grade has gone up every season.

If the Cowboys can stay healthy next season and improve these positions in the draft, they are poised for success next NFL season.
