The Ravens have signed a lot of free agents over the years, but have never really had a “draft pick” make a good impression on them and become a long-term solution. In recent years we’ve seen guys like Steve Smith and Kendall Fuller show they can hang with the Ravens, but what about the undrafted free agents? Here are a handful of guys who will try to make the team as undrafted free agents in 2019.
The Ravens aren’t in a situation where they have to take any UFAs in the draft, so they can afford to take chances on players who have a high likelihood of making the roster as undrafted free agents. There are a lot of guys you could send in to camp and make the team, but I think the one guy who really stands out as a solid pick up for the Ravens is Nick Bawden.
The Ravens are going to cut some players with no guaranteed contracts, that means they will be playing for their futures. That means that in 2021, the Ravens will be working to build a team that can follow on from the Super Bowl run of 2018.. Read more about sammy watkins ravens and let us know what you think.
finishing 11-4 last season, the Baltimore Ravens have advanced to the top of the AFC standings. Having been impressed with the performance of quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back J.K. Dobbins last year, they used the 2021 NFL draft to address some weaknesses. After Baltimore got an extra first-round pick this year after sending disgruntled offensive guard Orlando Brown to the Kansas City Chiefs it decided to contract a wide receiver and a halfback. The selection of Minnesota’s Rashod Bateman and Penn State’s Jason Ove kept the Ravens in the Big Ten in the first two polls, but delayed the need to improve their OL. A WR early in the draft is a boon to a passing attack that yielded just 2,919 yards and 27 TDs, while Jackson ran for 2,757 yards and 26 TDs with just nine interceptions. Remember, this happened while Jackson had targets like tight end Mark Andrews and WRs Marquis Hollywood Brown, Willie Sneyd IV and Miles Boykin who were in the top four on the team in terms of receiving. With eight picks in this year’s NFL draft the Ravens may have brought in a gem of a free agent – look which defensive linemen are in line for a first-round pick.
Security – Texas Christian University TCU guard Ar’Darius Washington, who was considered a third- or fourth-round pick before the draft, dropped drastically in the team rankings and left the draft altogether. Fortunately for the Ravens, they need a secondary defense, even after selecting two cornerbacks this year. Washington’s failure can be attributed to his poor performance on pro day and his height, as he’s 6-foot-4 and can be outplayed by more physical wideouts and tight ends. But his ball skills showed up during his time with the Horned Frogs, which should be of great interest to the Ravens. Washington received several accolades during the selection process, he was a top-60 pick and was even compared to Kansas City’s Tyrann Mathieu. His versatility at the position helped him become the first UDFA option to be picked as the best or second best by the two major publications that beat the draft. Among the Ravens’ prospects at safety are Chuck Clark and DeShawn Elliott, the latter of whom could face a hefty salary in free agency after next season. Adding cheap young talent to an already talented defense can only help Baltimore improve, which should keep the rest of the AFC alert. Their offense may be the area that needs the most work, but this year’s selection has solved key problems (WR and OL) where talent was lacking. Baltimore knows it’s important to surround Jackson with talent, and with Dobbins, the best starting RB, next to him the burden only shifts to the core WR line. Washington may have finished much lower than expected, but with BAL’s reputation for developing safeties, Washington could be another high-end option to run through defenses and wreak havoc on opposing QBs. Washington, which continues to fight for every win in a tight AFC North division, could be the perfect option to ease the Ravens’ underappreciated woes this season.I’m a scout for the Ravens. Every year, I look through the free agent pool looking for guys who have the chance to make the team. I examine their play in college, and how they’ve performed in their career before landing here. I look at their physical attributes, their ability to compete, and their makeup. And then I do it all over again, and again, and again, and again..
